For me, he's the most talented player Derbyshire have brought through in the current crop of youngsters. He's 24 now, and this season should have been one where he kicked on, but with injuries and poor form, he may well have gone backwards slightly. All the same, he's a destructive middle order batsman, a decent seam bowler with a knack of taking wickets with the added bonus of being a left armer, and is a top notch fielder.
Sort of good to see Derbyshire being firm on this sort of thing. If they want a full pre season in Derbyshire then thats their perogative and the players should go with that. But at the same time a lot of the current Derbyshire players have come on leaps and bounds from playing in Australia and Zimbabwe (Slater and Burgoyne played FC cricket in Zim until Xmas last year).
He's played the last two winters in Aus, and I think I'm right in saying his girlfriend is Australian, hence why he may want to winter in Adelaide again.

I think his previous trips were in conjunction with Derbyshire to Lehmans academy where he did pretty well. All this said he is employed by the county so if they want him in this country over the winter then they are entitled to say so. He was out with a broken finger i think and then i noticed he played for Chesterfield so suggests he was fit recently so the fact he still wasnt player makes you think things had gone past the point of resolution.
Only played against him once in his Swarkestone time...bowled one over that went for a lot including Bil sticking him in the field next to their ground twice and then got a few chasing a low total but got silly near the end when him and someone else were turning down 1's etc to try and get as much as they could for their £1 a run payment plan!!

First year he went he was at the DLCA but the second year he was just playing club cricket. It's only a few months ago he was selected for the England team at the Hong Kong Sixes Comp, so he was definitely going in the right direction.
Never going to get anywhere releasing your best youngsters, especially when you're supposed to be promoting from within. It's been said before, and happened way back when the likes of Blackwell were let go.
There will be more to it though, no doubt about that.

Be interesting to see if the County actually come out with any more info to explain the issue or call it a day at that statement. Obviously been a massive breakdown in relations for it to come to this as he was a talent despite it not happening this season and to write off a 3yr deal. I half guess that Whiteley was trying to push something that the club didnt want and others were adhering to so why should he get special treatment to fly off to the other side of the world. Especially as he'll be on a full contract not a summer one so in reality employed by the club over the winter as well. Nothing to stop him going there for his break at the end of the season prior to pre season but i did notice that the club last season had the players back in before xmas for fitness tests etc. I suspect they felt the time had come for Whiteley not to be playing about in Sydney or whereever whilst they were paying him.
That spell back in the late 90s\early 00s when we had the makings of a side before they all left was politics i was always led to believe. Not many liking Cork etc. We've probably only just started recovering from it.

Sandiacre 3rds? If so its pretty easy, played there earlier this season dropping rather well being on the same day we had a night out in Leicester with friends so was just half way to where i needed to be anyway. Takes about 30mins i think.
Down to the A52 roundabout on the M1, Junction 25, and then when you come off there go all the way round and take the one after the A52 towards Derby signposted for Sandiacre. Go up that road and you will come to some traffic lights, turn left towards Derby and follow that main road. After just over half a mile and having gone past the Risley Hall Hotel on your left you turn left onto Breeston Lane, turning is just before a red phone box i think. Follow that road going under the A52 and the ground is on your right.
This should link to driving directions on Google Maps :-

Ground is ok if a bit basic pavilion wise, fairly short boundaries straight.

Just dont prod Planty!! ;-)
We're at home to Duffield which we probably need to win. Having missed the last couple i play this weekend then miss a few again bar a rearranged game v Matlock on the 4th. Got a wedding, test match in Durham and then a trip to Valencia on three consecutive weekends and then we have no game the last weekend in August.

Mill top by a distant but then 1 from 4 for second...Duffield, Eckington, Barbs or us.
Langley Mill United CC 13-266
Duffield CC 13-225
Eckington CC 13-223
Chesterfield Barbarians CC 14-206
Ashover CC 12-188
Got that game in hand on most after our "Pilsley week" last week but need to win that game really. Not going to be easy but still well in there and going to be a good finish for those concerned. Availability will play a part as well i assume...we had a few missing last weekend, Eckington have been doing well on the back of a few not featuring for the first team, Duffield have a couple that flit between firsts and seconds whilst Barbs appear to be the only real settled side currently and the acquisition of Griff will help them...he could slog a few wins between now and the end of the season.

What on earth is happening? Bad recruitment obviously but we can't even compete with any other side
Has Shiv officially retired or is he likely to get called up for the WI. Clearly he has not been a great success and his wages could be used to patch up other areas
