I sincerely hope we are not going to experience a Wembley victory against relegation. Even worse a Wembley loss and relegation.

Could we be visiting Wembley with all but relegation confirmed, how quick will the Wembley visit fade as the fight becomes a losing cause.

But on the other hand would you take L1 survival here and now against everything else; is the Wembley visit/experience going to be enough.

I'm greedy, I want it all - just look at all the potential new support we are show casing, even the build up outside of the b2net on the day. The waving off of the team a couple of days before, all there to be taken advantage of - could it stimulate another step up for the club attendance wise or could a Wembley loss be a curtain call for out right condemnation of this seasons short comings.

What ever your view the feeling of anticipation will soon rise to the fore come the planning of a new season and this season will be just memories but hopefully good ones.

I'm struggling to see the point you're trying to make here, Dave.

But i'll give you my take anyway.

The trip to Wembley is a rare and precious novelty for a lower league outfit like ourselves. It could be the one and only chance some of the players will get to play at the home of football, whilst for the fans it's a wonderful opportunity to witness their local club take part in a genuine cup final on a national stage. I'm absolutely desperate for us to win as that'd be something no one could ever, ever take away from us.

However win or lose John Sheridan's performance this season should be judged on league position, and league position alone.

When John Duncan delivered a season even worse than the one we're currently experiencing there were apologists who constantly dragged up the '97 cup run in a bid to defend him. Unfortunately there's no column in the league table for previous achievements. Similarly our slide towards relegation under McFarland and Richardson was met in certain quarters by references to the League Cup victories we'd enjoyed. Again they did nothing to avert our ultimate demise. Cup competitions can include far too many variables to be an accurate barometer, subsequently it's the week-to-week results that must be taken into account.

I'm looking forward to the Final, Dave, really looking forward to it. I'm gonna enjoy every moment of the day and will be absolutely ecstatic if we lift the trophy. That said it'll be scant consolation if/when we're playing the likes of Macclesfield, Fleetwood, and Accrington in the coming year.
Never underestimate the stupidity of people

given our awful league season, we may as well jump whole heartedly into this one and enjoy it, if we survive it will be an amazing turn around after the first half of the season, i don't really see us staying up, we will probably get closer to it than i expected some weeks back but who knows, wembley one off game, gotta enjoy that
