We’re the Man Utd of League One! (Megson)

GARY MEGSON claims his Sheffield Wednesday are the Man United and Real Madrid of League One — as everyone wants to beat them.

The Owls boss believes his team are the first rivals looked for on the fixture list.

And he said: "No matter what team it is, we are everybody's biggest challenge.

"I'd imagine it's akin to the Premier League when everyone is looking forward to playing Manchester United.

"United are the size of club that can cope with that, at the moment we're trying to build one that can.

"I don't care which team it was, as soon as the fixture list came out they would have been looking for when they're playing Wednesday. We are the big draw.

"I think there's a great deal of expectation and the history of Sheffield Wednesday points at a massive, massive football club."

"But the reality is that it's a League One club and it's run like one.

"There's a perception that we are the Real Madrid of this division, but we're not.

"This is a shrewdly-run football club    but we have to try and get the club back to where everyone in the country thinks we should be."

Megson's side face an out-of-form Exeter side today and will be looking to push on after a mixed run of results.

The Owls beat Yeovil 3-2 last weekend, but were heavily beaten 5-1 by league new-boys Stevenage.

Megson added; "That was the worst performance and defeat that I've experienced since I've been in football.

"I've not seen anything like that, it was a total capitulation."

Megson said he and his side had moved on from the defeat, but others hadn't.

He said: "It shows the stature of this club that we've played another game and yet all everybody wants to talk about is that defeat.

"Ryan Lowe summed it up when he signed for us.

"He said it makes a huge difference to see 3,000 Wednesday supporters following you on the road, whereas you'd get 75 from another club."

And Wednesday fans wonder why people hate them so much, everyone gets sick of hearing them go on and on and on and on about being the biggest team with the most fans... Who cares your in league one and you have league one players and your a league one team. Its all about winning games.

As a general rule, I prefer Blades fans. They're simply not as deluded.

And an average league one team at that.

I'm same as you. There was a thread asking which one everyone disliked the least the other week. I gave the same reasons as you.

They just don't understand that when we walk out on to pitch with them a week on Saturday, they are our equals and nothing better. I also think Charlton would be a much more impressive scalp than Wednesday and so would United for that matter.

Exactly Megsons point then..You hate Wednesday more so id imagine you'd most like to beat them this season out of any team who wouldnt? There simular to Leeds and Forest from previous years; There a big scalp in this division no matter what we think!

There not the massive massive football club as they make out and i dislike them as much as any other Town fan, but realistically they are one of the biggest if not the biggest in this division like it or not and are a scalp for the majority in this league! :ninja:

I much prefer United fans too. They are a lot more level headed when it comes to accepting the realisation that they are not quite the club they once were at the minute. I hope we smash wednesday a week on saturday.
If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything!
