It just maybe that any average striker (in a previous life, eg Davies, Clarke, Smalley) can score in this side, because of the way we play and the playmakers we have at full back, in midfield and on the wing :)

I'm a manager at a heating company and I've had countless conversations with people about "being offered better money to work somewhere else". It doesn't wash with me.
In my book loyalty is everything.
Life goes on. Whatever happens.

Agree, if someone offered me 15k a year more I'd turn it down?? Just saying. Being happy means more.

Loyalty doesn't pay the bills though does it, and a footballers career is short.

We knew what we were getting when we signed a player on a 1 year deal with more clubs than seasons as a pro.

I don't believe you wouldn't move jobs for the thought of an extra £2k per week, thats £100k extra a year!!

Spire, i think if you were actually ever offered that it would be alot harder to turn down than just saying it hypothetically now.

Are you seriously telling me that if you were offered more money to work at a bigger company with more chance of success and a much bigger budget for you to gain success and extra bonuses you'd seriously turn it down?

If you say you would turn it down youve obviously never been in that position or you're crackers

were not talking about an extra £15k a year are we, its more an extra £15k a month!!

And who says he was happy here last season? His attitude towards the management in some games suggested otherwise.

thats what they toldme ,one drunken one said u can have him for a miliion , obviously clouded by a shandy or two lol

They really hate the guy

http://thetownend.co...5;topicseen#new

They seem to have swallowed the Di Canio spin hook, line and sinker.

Normally there would be some balance to the discussion but not in this case. I didn't bother searching for the posts when they signed him but I bet they were creaming themselves.

They seem to think they'll get a fee for him; not if they are paying £6K per week! They'll be lucky if they don't have to pay up some of his contract

Comparing footballers to normal 9-5 workers is silly IMO due to the expiry date.

Going by what was reported on here then he was offered 4k a week.
I dont earn anywhere near that and I can manage to pay a mortgage, buy clothes and shoes for my child, run a car, put food on the table, pay bills, go out drinking whenever I want, buy seson tickets for my son and I and still save up.

I'm lucky that I can do all this, because a load of families don't live as comfortable as us.
So don't try telling me that he did what was best for his family, because 4k a week is more than comfortable.
Thats where loyalty comes into it.

So it was because of the drive that you turned it down not cos of the extra money, therefore your not that much better off with an extra 4 hour drive a day.

However a footballer's got to be prepared to move with his job, he'll probably get put up in a hotel by the club as we have for a few.

£1250 a month is not really that much when your talking about footballers moving for an extra 2\4\6k a week

and do you think you'll still be able to do your job to the sane standard as now when you are 40? 50?? 60??

Ok, you say loyalty is everything to you, very commendable, pressumably you have worked for the same company all your life??

FWIW, i dont think loyalty is a word that exists much in football anymore.

metallilad, your career is probably going to last longer than your 33 too.

Footballers at this level have to make their money whilst they can and you live to your means, look at the premiership players wanting more than £100k a week

Because there would be no debate if everyone agreed with everyone.

No. Your right but you can garuantee that players like Davies and Jack aren't on the same wage as joe bloggs who lifts boxes for a living.

so, let me get this right:

Firstly, you raise the issue of your turning down a £15k pay rise offer to work elsewhere

Then, you say comparing footballers to "normal" worker is silly

Then, when challenged about the above, you attempt to justify bringing your own situation in to it?!!

I'm scrathcing my head here!

and rightly so

I guess your one of the "Premiership players are disgusting for accpeting £100K a week" brigade too?
