Comment from a Stockport fan (the only one I could find on TFF, I'm sure there are more positive ones somewhere) -
The comment from the child like Stockport fan appears to be one of a bitter one who is losing his captain from the sunken ship.

more likely they realised he had no intention of going there. SCFC had given him a deadline of earlier this week to accept their contract and as they have not announced that he has signed I think we can assume that he is on his way out of there. We are the only other club to have been linked with him in the press.
If we sign him it is possible that we may have to pay a fee, but this is not certain. He is under 24 so they would be entitled to a fee - but only if they had offered him a new deal on at least as good terms as he had previously been on. This is unlikely as their budget for the coming season is said to be 500-600k, he signed his contract when they were 2 divisions higher and presumably paying a lot more out in wages than they can now afford. If they matched his old deal and he signed it they'd have very little for the rest of their squad.
I would be more surprised if he didn't join us on a free than if he did.

Then we will surely see the sight of RPL42 rushing to the bookies to back us for the Champonship

I like the way these stories keep circulating, each one quoting from, and in turn being quoted by, other sites!

I guess that's because there is so little action out there, they are digging for it

Still missing a LB, a RW and another CM or two and whatever else we need to cover those positions.

would you expect supporters of a team that has just suffered consecutive relegations to be lauding their departing captain? Supporters aren't always the best judge of a player - just ask R2D2

Don't know much about him but seem to recall Oldham fans not being very complimentary about Whittaker either!
Until and if he does sign for us I will reserve judgement

But that isn't just one supporter, that's a lot of supporters. If it was just one I'd understand but these guys have just got relegated to the BSP and they don't even seem to think he's a big loss. Not every fan is bitter, they will have moved on now, we can't just call every single Stockport fan bitter because they've been relegated. They'll have seen him week in, week out and if he was a very good player we'd know about it.
Obviously if we signed him he'd start with a clean slate like every player does for us, but if the fans' opinions are there I'll give them a read and to be honest, they're very 'meh'.
And Wariwickshire Spireite, most Oldham fans said Whittaker was a decent goalscoring midfielder but was too lightweight and dissapeared when it got to winter, something which we saw as well. Their opinions were fair and true (for the most part). He is a very good player for us but he is lightweight and there was a period where he was playing terribly (namely when he was moved to his preferred position of central midfield, coincidentally during the winter period).

Josh, the likes of Morgan Hunt, Griffiths, Whits, Mattiss were way off of the radar prior to joining - don't you think JS knows what he's doind if the lad joins us.

I trust JS, hence why I said if he signs then he will be judged fairly and objectively! I just find it strange why everyone would post such 'meh' comments if he was good enough for League 1 football but there you go.

Perhaps Sheridan has seen something in him that he believes would work in our team? In other words, maybe Turnbull has the attributes to be a good player but couldn't demonstrate it playing amongst poor players with low morale? I don't know enough about him to offer this up as my opinion, but it's feasible.
