Well, I aint exactly new to the forum but I have rarely posted on here over the past few years, until the last few days.

Some may know me, some wont so a brief story if your interested, if not, no need to read on!!

From 1976/77 until a couple of seasons after the Darren Brown regime, I rarely missed a home game and from around 1986 I used to travel to the vast majority of away games, the points reduction season one was my best attended, missing no home games and just one away (and that includes midweek games and treks to Carlisle wondering where the juice was coming from).

After the 'Brown' regime, a lot of my love for the club started to subside, I felt let down, betrayed, dissolutioned and could see little light at the end of the tunnel (thats the second time Ive used that phrase this week, must be more imaginative). I started at first to almost stop completely from going to away games and missing the odd home game (feeling guilty when I did miss), gradually I missed more and more until it got to the point that in the last couple of seasons I only attended three or four home games and maybe a couple of away games (if I needed the ground).

All in all, I had become an almost non goer in the space of a few seasons, from previously being a long standing season ticket holder, purchaser of kit/shirt sponsor etc etc. My love affair had ceased after 30 odd years.

I still visited the website, read reports and needed to know the town score asap when I wasnt there, I still loved the club, but wasnt in love with it and felt no urge to up the tempo and start returning.

I went to a couple of games last season and then when the Bournemouth game came up, I bought a ticket (felt a bit guilty actually) but then thought as a veteran of hundreds and hundreds of Saltergate games I had earned my place there. Enjoyed the day for all the nostalgic reasons and even shed a shy tear at the end, I departed having said my farewell to a long old friend who I hadnt seen that often lately but had spent the bulk of my life with.

I said I would go to the first game at the B2net and I duly trotted off to the Derby game with the sole intention of it being my first visit and maybe last for at least several months. Cutting it short, I was gobsmacked and decided I would go to the Barnet game, I could feel an old flame being re-lit within.

I wasnt overly impressed with the Barnet game from a footballing point of view, but the lads did enough and opening day fixtures can often be misleading and 'cup tie ish' in terms of a non existent form book. I also took my son (who I had dragged twice to Saltergate, much to his dislike), he loved it.

Last night I went to the Boro game and went East Stand (previous two being West), I cant keep away, I feel like Im back, I dont think the football is anything to do with it, its more like I can see some light at the end of the tunnel (3 times now!!!).

The Stadium I find amazing, better than I could have imagined, I find Im transfixed with it at times when viewing it from the outside when approaching and when looking from the pub etc. Would I have been tempted back to Saltergate, I honestly dont think I would have been on a regular basis, will it coax me to away games, not likely on a regular basis but who knows, will I miss any games at the B2, for sure, Im away for the Hereford game and wont be here and there will be times when other things come before football, however.... I cant see me missing many, for the Barnet and Boro games, I felt as passionate about it all as I did more than a decade ago and I can only put it down to the Ground, the positive vibes about the place and not feeling like everything is a dead end, Saltergate was a lovely place in terms of memories and special games/evenings giantkills etc etc etc, but I honestly feel Saltergate, dank, dark, dying.....along with Browns antics killed my will for the club.

The B2 has poured a huge can of whitewash over all that, I feel refreshed, heart warmed, full of enthusiasm and ready for action.... Im Back and looking forward to the ride.

What a top quality post mate. Glad ur back into it again!

If i'm honest, i had debates with myself whether to continue with the season ticket for the past couple of years. And had people who i used to go with, who no longer do, tell me that it wasn't worth it and they don't really miss it.

I'm soo glad i stuck with it and now can find myself thinkin look what they're missing. My goal this season is to get jus 1 of those people back into it again - i don't think it will be that difficult.

bought my first ever season ticket basically because of the ground. Feel that the club deserve as much support (vocally and financially) as we can muster for finally moving out of the dark ages.

Thanks

Im sure many others will return, the whole place breaths of 'going somewhere'. For the first time in a long, long time I even feel compelled to congratulate the board, something that in my 'hey day' as a town fan would have been unthinkable. They really have delivered on the stadium front.

Fascinating read ‘Jamie’. I really enjoyed your insight of a former hardcore supporter who like many had become disillusioned with the club for whatever reason.

Glad to hear your back!!

Excellent post welcome back.

I feel the same. I only started picking and choosing games when rico took over....felt deflated at the blatent decline under" mr nice guy" and felt very strong that the club was dying a slow painful indignant death.

Feels different now. Even feel a pre-match buzz.

Great post mate....welcome back

I`m just so happy that Mr Hubbards brought the feelgood factor to the club and thanks to his vision and insight we have a bright future to look forward to. I`m very optimistic about this season, even if we only finish 1 place higher than last season we`ll have all the excitement to look forward to, I hope we can keep the attendances up as well, the atmosphere at the B2Net is the best atmosphere in the football league, what a perfect place to celebrate our promotion party, uncle Barries licking his lips at the prospect of a victory parade to cement his status as the greatest chairman in the clubs history and the 1 who brought back so many fans with his vision for the future of the club and the 1 who gave us a Championship stadium.

Fantastic post and is pretty similar to what happened with me..........I cannot wait for the Hereford game.
