After listening to the commentary, reading reports on here, and hearing texts on Radio Sheff from attendees alleging we'd yet again 'pinched' a result, i'm beginning to wonder how long we must attribute our current form to mere luck?

Think about it: a side that conceded almost obligatory goals has become miserly in that department and kept more clean sheets since Christmas than in the entire five months leading up to it, what's more there's been a tangible change from an open, fluent, lightweight, attacking policy to a far more conventional 'keep it tight and hit the big man', League Two approach since Santa visited.

And as if by magic our results have become more consistent.

Now i'm not saying i prefer Duncanesque tactics over more entertaining ones, but i think we have to face facts and accept that though we've perhaps enjoyed the 'rub of the green' on occasion our ascent up the league has been down to the aforementioned re-think as much as the 'slings and arrows of outrageous fortune'.

In short, maybe we've made our own luck.

I have an issue with those Duncanesque efforts today. I have spent the day looking at 2000-01 highlights for the EoaE DVD. It is just as good as I remember it- plenty of goals for the "Great Saltergate Goals" chapter as well as a few for the chapter on that season.

Unfortunately we all know what it takes to play like that consistantly...

As much as I personally loathed the general negative JD tactics you had to admire and applaud the success he gained with limited resources.

I have to confess I also ated the negative boring football under JD but as you say he got the results. However, I would like to think that Shez as a game plan to hopefully get us out of this division then I am certain will will see a different type of football. unfortunately that was not the case with JD

Just how limited were his resources? He spent fortunes.
