Surely if football was played in 1871 at Saltergate and will be played in 2010 at Saltergate, can we not claim 140 years at Saltergate and not 139??

Edit: And as a cruel twist of irony, I make a spelling mistake in the Topic Title...........

Interesting one. You have a point. 140 years since it was first used for football. If I had ten people from Mansfield in my kitchen I'd count it out on their fingers, but I'm sure your maths stacks up. The fact that no football was played on it (as far as I can establish) in 1917-18 might offer a get out of jail free card... 139 completed seasons?

Let's say there's been four, one on each end / side in all that time. Let's say the average fan sups four pints before a game and piddles one out at half time; let's further say that an average of 250 fans perform this feat per urinal per game. That's 1000 pints of piddle per game. Let's say an average of 20 home games per season over those 139 years; that's 2980 games, not including reserves, cricket in the 1880s and motor-cycle polo in 1920-something.

2980 times our 1000 pints = 2,980,000 pints. That's about twice the quantity of milk delivered by a milkman in his working life, if he starts work at sixteen and retires at 65.

I don't know if anyone on the board used to know John Hawkins when he was still well enough to attend games, but I reckon he must've provided more than his fair share of the "piddle" - he used to be "just nipping to the bogs" about 5 times a game!

Remarkable and rather worrying thinking.
