Striker Problem

e.g. In the Chief mould, lurking at the back post to knock on in, or doing flick ons for Jack.
2. Target man (Holding up ball)
e.g. Someone who we can knock the ball to, and he has a chance of holding it up.
3. Tricky Player
e.g. Constantly running at the defence, turning and twisting to get a shot, a less talented Jack.
4. Poacher
e.g. In the Owen mould, can maybe not even be in the game, but when there's a lose ball or a rebound he's there to knock it in.
Out of those options, what type of striker do you think we need?

Number 2. With number 3 on the wing.

Though ideally purely from a footballing/ spectator point of view I'd like to see a combination of 2 & 3 as Sin pointed out. I feel we really need someone that's going to be quite a bit faster than Jack so we can mix it a bit! Shame we couldn't afford Crouchy he'd give us the lot

The other two areas are as key as the strikers in my view, CM,RM and possibly LM depending on what type of striker is brought in! If it's number 1 then we need another winger.

What is blatantly obvious up front is that we are easy to contain, We don't have that hard CF who puts himself about physically and we don't have the Ward option of pace whereby the CB's are turned. Jack and Gritton as a 2 are a defences dream unless they get the ball to feet whereby they can play to their strengths. This style negates crosses in the main because you haven't got that physical guy with height to target. In this league you have to have that guy up front.

JS has repeatedly said that he is looking to bring in a striker and a wide midfielder. You need to be a bit patient. It takes time to bring in the quality of player we are looking at. If we were prepared to settle for second best we could have signed dozens of players by now, I'd rather wait a while and get the right ones in.
I love your optimism 'we are going to struggle big time' - tommyrot. We have yet to play a game under the new manager and you are already coming out with prophesies of doom. Wait until we've actually played a couple of games before panicking.

You don't get quality at this level.....

Will be expensive as plenty of clubs chasing same; could CFC afford, without scouring lower leagues?

Is this role becoming redundant by comparison?

Preferred option, as can supply ammunition to existing strike force, but still has a price/wage tag. Spencer Weir-Daley? (You did say less talented

See my first reply; every club wants one and many wealthier clubs than Chesterfield FC

Now all we have to do is find this player (and presumably at little or no cost). Should be easy then!
