That would be a nice sell on cheque (3 million). These journeymen footballers can be quite a lucrative source of income.

with a percentage of Wigan's percentage, and with having to give Leeds a percentage of what we get, won't be much left though!

without knowing the % sell-ons agreed, lets have a guess at 20% all round and he goes for £3m (can't see it, maybe up to £2m)
Hull get £3m and give Wigan £600k of it
So Wigan get £600K and of that pay us £120k leaving them with £480K (meaning they only paid £270k for him!!)*
Of the £120k we get, we give leeds £24k, leaving us with £96k.
Leeds will have already had 20% of the £750k we got initially for him, and the share of the £1.25m Hull paid for him!!
Edit: * missed the £1.25m Wigan have already got for him, less what they paid us from that! Messy Stuff!

wrong - the sell on only ends when one of the clubs in the chain doesn't put a sell on in the contract. The deal we had for Folan was Wigan paid £X plus ?% of any future profits, so If Wigan sold him to Hull for £1m plus a percentage of future profit we'd get ?% of the profit Wigan made from the original fee and any later add-ins. A good example of this is the fact that we had to pay Leeds some of the money Hull paid to Wigan to pay to us when Caled moved to humberside.

'Tis true.
We are/were on the brink of getting another payout when he played x number of games for Hull. Whether x has been reached I don't know.

Although it is quiet on the transfer front at the moment I feel that the manager is looking well into the future with the signings he brings in. I know we have to get promotion to progress but I would bet that there will be big movement for players come January transfer window. By that time he will know who he is going to release potential and contract wise.

The sell on clause is in fact a clause saying that the selling club is entitled to a specified percentage of any future profits received by the buying club if they sell him on. This could be profit on the fee itself or any other clauses such as promotion/appearance/international etc. So if each subsequent transfer contains a similar clause a little of the profit will dribble down the line. This will only end if a player is sold at a loss, retires or does not trigger any other clauses.
