well the article said

The Australian international is out of contract in the summer and had agreed to extend his current deal prior to the injury.
The Spireites have confirmed that they will honour that agreement and help the 23-year-old return to action as quickly as possible

Well if he has agreed to a new deal a while ago which to be honest he could have another pr mess up from the club

Official Site says he's agreed the 2 year deal offered to him prior to his injury, which the club still honoured.
