I don't think Rotherham got anywhere near 1.8m for Hoskins the price stated at the time was 1.2 mill and that included Williamson thrown in as well

He will go in the January window, no question of it.
The issue is, will he put pen to paper on a new contract beforehand, in the same way that Folan did, so that we get a decent wedge for him when he does leave.

I totally agree. Wardy is brilliant and was onfire wednesday night.I, too, would love him to sign another contract with us...But what if he won't? What if Town offered him the best contract they could but he turned it down,saying-Look, I like this club,I'm really grateful for the offer of a new contract and for what you've done for me in the past, but there's been bigger clubs looking at me and I'd like to play at the highest level possible! What would you want the club to do? keep him until the end of the season knowing that, being only 22years old we'd get something for him (though I imagine it would be very little) or take the highest offer, even at say,100,000? As I said on here a couple of weeks ago, we could end up with a Peter Leven scenario...But with Wardy, we'd stand to lose alot more!

I totally agree,
The best we could offer him would be £3k a week for 3 years. Why would he sign that now and raise his price for the january window when he could command probably double that at a mid-table championship club?
Its not the same scenario as Folan cos he was rescued from the last chance saloon by the club whereas Ward had clubs queing up to sign him before we did.
I sincereley hope he does sign a new del and stays here for the rest of his career but it ain't gonna happen, the best we could hope for is that he scores 30 goals this season and has a host of clubs chasin him come May and we get a favourable tribunal committee!!
Once Torquay's wedge is taken out can't see us ending up with more than £250k absolute max.

Surely a player is only worth as much as someone is willing to pay for them?

Almost everyone rated Folan as ineffective in all but his last half-season here. 500k for him, when we might have freed him the previous summer without anyone batting an eyelid, was good business.

The fee of kovacs was more to do with what the tribunal came up with which it has to be said was a pathetic sum.
If Jamie goes at the end of the season for free and we get compensation it'll probably be some pathetic amount as well, it will be nowhere near the amount we'd get if we sold him beforehand, but i'd rather him stay here.
Suppose it depends on factors like where we'll be playing next season, and how he's treated by the fans between now and then, his performance will surely turn a few heads among people who still weren't convinced he's worth a regular place on the teamsheet. It could also depend on who the manager is for the rest of the season, ward has faith in rico, but will he get along with a new manager the same and will the new manager play him as often as rico does.
