Disagree, our MP claims ?25 a month in expenses to have it delivered to London so it must be topical in the ?Smoke?.

Wrestling the thread back onto topic... https://edition.cnn....intl/index.html

Look; every intelligent and informed person knows the history of this border, just as they realise how unpredictable events in Damascus remains.

But this just looks like Netenyahu yet again responding with disproportionate force...

Regarding Syria, and keeping the thread very much on topic, we?re seeing more and more evidence appear of the brutality and murderous intent of Assad during his time in power, so again why did Labour benefactor in chief, and very very close friend of Starmer, Lord Alli, have meetings with Assad. What was discussed and does it put our increasingly lame leader in a compromised position?

Fantastic news that Israel, our democratic allies, have destroyed the strategic Russian navel base of Latakia and also ridding the region of ISIS fighters. A huge embarrassment for Putin. They should also have taken out Iran's nuclear facilities when they had the chance. The West now needs to concentrate on Russia's growing African Empire: Libya, Mali, Niger, Sudan, Central Africa, Republic and Bangui where it has military bases. With China's influence on the continent also significant, our potenial enemies strength is a concern. Rather puts Starmer's inexcusable surrender of the Chagos Islands and the strategic base of Diego Garcia and the anger of our American allies in perspective.

Imagine walking all the way to the uk only to have to turn back now Assad is gone, unscrupulous uk hotel owners shouting ? damn you Assad I was booked up for 3 more christmasses? as Syrian refugees leave in droves armed with foot pumps to reinflate dinghy?s and head back across the channel? I mean I presume they are heading back now it?s safe ?.the reality is there?s more chance of Saudi Arabia holding a world cup

I've rabbited on before about this but, long term, one of the major objectives of any foreign state offering help should be that a Female Emancipation movement 'rises like a phoenix from the ashes'.
This after the Taliban has just decreed that only men can help women give birth.
Get it on, bang the gong , get it on

Certainly noises emanating from Damascus appear encouraging.

Though talk is cheap.

And the inevitable power struggle between the disparate groups occupying various territories will ultimately decide who really runs Syria.

The Turks seem key. It was they who brokered the agreement which saw Putin and Iran withdraw leaving Assad with no option but to, as our foreign minister quite rightly put it, 'flee like a rat'. They also have an interest in preventing Kurdish forces gaining influence.

It's a time for caution. To encourage the formative administration. To offer them every opportunity to create a stable government.

One which, perhaps in time, might begin to embrace western freedoms...

'Embrace western freedoms'!

Syria has fallen to Isis and Al Qaeda. After a coalition of bad actors has decided to carve up the territory for their own geo-political interest. Chiefly Israel, Turkey and the US.

There are beheadings in the streets. Ex Syrian army, christians, those who believe in said western freedoms and anyone who doesn't bow down to the extremists will now at best be refugees or slaves. Many of them killed or imprisoned.

What was once Syria will now go the same way as Iraq and Libya. Unquestionably brutal dictators who kept tinder box societies stable, removed. Replaced by extremists.. Ungovernable warzones for various militia and hellholes for those who live there. Anyone who thinks otherwise has not been paying attention to much else than the BBC.

You are correct, trying to impose so called western freedoms on others is a farce especially after you have levelled the place.

Thought you were doing quite well concerning geopolitics turning authoritarian but relatively stable countries into failed states until you blamed the BBC for ignoring it. I'd say they tend to look deeper into the root causes than many other outlets.

One point though, wasn't it mainly the UK and France that sent Libya into free-fall.
