If Giles gets the job we might just as well give up!

Well that was embaressing. With such a relatively low total to chase I'm at a loss as to why we played so many stupid shots. All we had to do was knock it round for singles and twos and then go for it when the batsmen were settled.

And just 4 fours as well in the entire innings, what a terrible winter. We've avoided the wooden spoon by gnats whisker of a run rate.
If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything!

Anyway. Back to the proper stuff.

Derbyshire has a strong side out today for their warm up game v Durham Uni.

Looking at that side it should in theory do well this season.

Here are the odds for Div2

1/5 odds for top 3 - I think that is a decent price?

Not convinced by Godleman but his hundred against Warwickshire in the warm up game may give him first nod....need the big players to play well again and we may have a chance. Some pace in the side with Foottit and Turner but you never quite know what you will get for them. Clare could be key after missing a lot of last season with injury.

They need to do something this year or there will be a lot of criticism about the way they've got coaches galore in this winter whilst only signing one player!

Got to play some of the younger players we played at the end of last season.

I think the likes of Burgoyne, Hughes, Slater will get there chance as the season goes on more so one day stuff with Burgoyne and Hughes. Decent start today....skittled them for 60 odd and 23-0 from four.

Scorecard in the Uni game looks interesting. Not for the runs but for the extras. They could end up batting all day and the students giving up a ton in extras.

Looks like they need a decent keeper....26 byes....that or the umps are being a bit more lenient with wides which then makes you wonder how wide the wides actually are!

I bought a new bat at the weekend off eBay - a Newbery Uzi or something. Wasted on me really (2nd hand & under a third of new price though) but if it helps me hit a few sixes this season I'll be happy!

Top bat!! I've never had an Uzi but had a Newbury Zeus and currently got a Newbery Grizzly. Won't be disappointed.

I was bidding whilst intoxicated on Saturday evening on my phone but I'm happy with the purchase.

£320 quid new apparently which I can believe and this one was used last year as a practice bat for Yorkshire. The username of the seller hints that it could be a family member of one of their players. I quite like the idea of a bat ready to just pick up and wave around instead of wasting time knocking it in. Just need to get some new boots and pads and think I'll be good to go when our new kit turns up!

Easily that expensive new for top of the range newberys. Need to repair my current grizzly after splitting the edge at nets the other week. Bit of glue and bat tape and it'll be good to go.

I've almost avoided the indoor nets - hopefully the Dam will be drying nicely and we can get a go outside before the friendly we've got arranged. I expect my lack of appearances at the nets will have put me down the pecking order but I don't mind!

Newberry Mjolnir one of the best bats I have ever had

The custom made Solitaire that I have now is mint mind - few of the Barbs have them - £150 for custom made grade 1 willow bat is excellent an all

I forced myself to go to some as i didnt want a repeat of last season where i just rolled up to bowl and injured myself for the first few weeks. Whether it will make a difference i've no idea but we shall see! Our lot have a friendly at Clay Cross on the 12th but i'm not playing...straight into league action at Ilkeston Rutland all being well.

Derbyshire's game at Leicester tomorrow has been postponed after Tom Poynton was injured, and his father killed, in a car crash last night.
