Cutthorpe CC are hosting a Sportmans dinner on Friday 11 April at the Proact. Graham Gooch is the main speaker so opportunity to quiz him on his career and maybe the recent Ashes debacle. Billy Flywheel, a comedian/magician is also performing. Tickets are £35 which includes a three course meal which is of the highest quality (as people who have been to anything in the CFC hospitaility before will know).

Anyone interested in attending, drop me a message on here.

On another matter, anyone else get the sense that The Australians are looking to firmly re-establish themselves as the most hated cricket team? At it again in SA.

When you pick the likes of David Warner its always going to happen...he's a massive XXX! Noticed, along with Clarke, he was spouting off at the umpire yesterday when they over turned the decision to give Philander out, correctly i thought, caught off his glove.

Us v Windies T20: Chris Gayle is just a force of nature.

I want England to win, obviously, but watching him send anything and everything that's bowled at him over the boundary is just amazing.

Bl00dy hell - there goes another into the distance.

Not sure I can support a 'badguys' event ;-)

Two weeks today until the 1st game against one of the student sides. April 1st does seem ridiculously early though.

Hope they've got plenty of jumpers to wear...could be a bit chilly! I'm still trying to think of a reason not to play in a pre season friendly we have at Clay Cross on the 12th April....my years of experience of playing up there tells me it will be B****Y cold! I'm not even looking forward to playing our first game at Ilkeston Rutland the week after...big, open and more than likely cold! At least i'm going in this season with a bit of winter nets under my belt rather than rolling up to play a Mansfield League game having not touched a bat or ball since the previous July!

Don't Derbys normally start reasonably well in April/May??

I think we play at Grace Road first up and then Essex who I know are notoriously slow starters.

Our championship season was built on a good start where the seamers bowled well on helpful pitches...and we sneaked a couple of wins in when others suffered with the weather. Think one the floodlights saw us to a win when without them they'd have been off!

Watched the India game today. I fear for this 20/20 team. I know they are just warm up games but 7 wickets taken in 2 games is not acceptable, it says it all when Dernbach was one of the better bowlers

But fair play to India, Kohli and Raina really played well to dig them out of a tough spot, its a shame we never seem to have 'that pair' capable of rescuing a game. As for our batting Lumb was the main threat, was doing very well before holing out and he'll be a big player for us in the tournaments. Moeen Ali did alright as well but his cautiously slow start ramped up the run rate and put too much pressure on to score runs. We'll need to improve 10 fold come Saturday

Just like to congratulate my son who not only will be playing for Alfreton again this summer but was also informed yesterday he'd also made the Amber Valley district U13 squad for the summer. Well done lad!

Not sure if anyone is actually bothering with the T20 World Cup but England just been shafted by the utter XXX that is Steve Davis. Dernbach gets one then next ball has Jayawardene caught first ball by Lumb diving ball. Jayawardene stands his ground and somehow Davis gives it not out...he is now 31 not out from 22 out of their 47-1!

once again it looks like the batsmen are going to have to dig us out of a hole. Our bowling attack has been poor this tournament. Amla and De Villiers have destroyed us today.

Well there's only so many times you can chase down 190+ totals. Very good effort though, been honest I thought we'd get smashed in this tournament after watching the WI series and the warm up games but we've done alright, just a couple of decent bowlers away from been a force in 20/20 again.

I heard that Ashley Giles is tipped to be Andy Flower's replacement.

He wouldn't be the first name on my list of motivational leaders.

Surely a choice for a transitional period in England cricket if he gets the job.
