Turner Dismisses Budget Claims

"Paul Cook has put together a squad together based on a playing budget we feel the club can afford. We are well below having the highest-paid squad in this division.
"It is important to let supporters know we are not putting the club at risk in trying to gain promotion. Other people can say what they want about how much we are spending but I can assure fans that we are not paying way over the odds."

I have a massive amount of respect for Chris Turner & the job he's doing here, but I wonder what he hopes to achieve with these comments, especially given what he's previously said about us being up to the League's salary cap!

In theory, we could be at our salary cap, but still be way off the divisions highest wage budget, for instance, one club could receive additional turnover of a several million large ones via 'special sponsorship' arrangements, enabling a larger budget than ours and a larger FL limit than ours.

I'm just not sure how the two statements of "we are up to the FL salary cap" and "we have the same budget as 2004" compute with each other. We can't have been spending the equivalent of the salary cap on today's turnover back in 2004, can we?

In my opinion we not only have the best Squad and Ground in the division but we have the best Manager, CEO and Owner too.

Agree Andy, the two statements dont add up, but are we back to the grey area of whether CT meant 'FL Salary Cap' or our own budget 'Salary Cap', there does seem contradictions but that may be down to wording or interpretation of CT's words.

Apart from that I agree with everything else. But you have to get "over the line".

Who would you class as better than Cook given the style of football he plays, our league position and the playing budget?

IF, Cook gets you a promotion he will have done a very good job. That was my point. Thus far Cook's managerial prowess, especially from his Southport days are very much under debate. Thus far he's achieved nowt.
I can't believe I'm agreeing with Josh again, but for me Keith Hill is easily the best manager in the division. Seems to get Rochdale up there every season. And could probably maximise most teams with the resources they have.

Would you prefer Hill over Cook?
Nothing against Hill as he's doing a great job at Rochdale but I wouldn't trade Cook for anyone.

Keith Hill is good but it’s farcical to say he’s ‘easily the best Manager in the division’. Until recently, Rochdale were the longest serving club in L2 and Hill had been in charge for a fair while before he attained promotion.

Cook is doing fine for us so no, I'm happy with what we've got but I don't think you could necessarily claim he's a better manager than Hill on the evidence we've seen so far.

Cook attained success at Sligo and did well in the brief spell at Accrington. I do rate Hill and his Rochdale side play decent football, but his recent record at Barnsley was nothing special.
Cook for me anyday. Hill would be up there though.
