Just a general question to the moderators, if someone reports a post, for whatever reason, would the moderators reply to the reporter regarding what action, if any, would be taken..ie ban, suspension or no action deemed necessary ..or just deal with the report as they see fit and not reply to the person who reports it?

this for me depends on the severity of the issue. I would generally look at the report and deal with it in what I felt was the appropriate way, without responding to the reporter. I can't speak for all moderators however.

Also how does one become a moderator?

Usually whoever sees it first unless it's something v serious in which case there'd probs be a group discussion about what to do

It would normally be dealt with by whichever moderator was available at any given time, and if it is simply a case of deletion of posts, this is done without need for consultation. If however things become more serious, where we feel the need for pre post approval or even suspension, then we will consult each other.

I became a moderator by invitation, but if interested I would contact Webster.

If the post is clearly outside of the rules I expect that any moderator or administrator would delete or hide it. Unless obviousdly erroneous we tend to back each other's decisions.

If it is a judgement call there is a moderators section of the board where we can debate issues. Sometimes there are reports on posts for very subjective reasons.

The moderators section is also used to determine how we deal with transgressors. There have been many bans, several suspensions and some placed on pre-post moderation (often for many months.)

We do not disclose any action we take as this can open our actions to debate and might also draw attention to posts that have been deleted for very obvious reasons.

Rich, Denny and I were here from the start I think. Rich as Bob's close mate, Denny as the technical brains and me as a CFSS board member. Others came on board (or left) for various reasons.

The thing thats the "bee in my bonnet" so to speak , is that I've reported various posts in recent weeks for what I see as blatant "trolling" and/or an obvious attempt to cause upset and confrontation on the board and have neither had a reply or seen action taken.
I would like a reply , even if in a pm, so I can at least gauge moderator feeling towards these posts.
My own feeling , and I stress, my own feeling is that some posts are reducing this forum to a joke and a vehicle for mischief and upset that really should be dealt with.

I am with Mr Mercury on this, if someone reports a post or member for trolling, mischief and generally causing unrest then surely the moderator who deals with it should respond to the one reporting the issue. Purely so they can see how the moderator sees things, I think it is pretty obvious who the person is and yet again proves what he is as we have won so the absence of any attention seeking antics is deafening by its absence.

This is a public forum which, unfortunately, sometimes attracts trolls, 'wum's', or assorted basket cases and cranks. In fact I'd argue 'RPL' - who I guess we're on about here - is pretty tame compared to one or two losers we've witnessed.

However 'negging', putting folk on 'ignore' or reporting posts isn't my style, so I simply focus on stuff that interests/entertains me whilst dismissing the rest.
