to be fair that was an away game - first home game drew 2023 fans.

Its conference sized attendances though at that level

Nice part of the world to earn a living for 2 years though.

It's a big old country though. I wouldn't fancy traveling some of those distances to away games

Well Mussolini made them run on time, wish he'd worked for Virgin! (and yes I know it was only one train he made run on time, I saw the QI episode!)

I expected Mansfield to sign him given their need for a finisher

Wouldn't bother me in the slightest. I'd fly to Albania for away games if it meant I was a professional footballer.

Travelling by road the longest distance likely in English football is Plymouth to Newcastle 410 miles in Italy Palermo to Milan 910 miles. There is a fair sized lump of the UK that is not England.

Hence why after the top two divisions i think Italian Football is regionalised. Same in France where they have three divisions that are national then two levels where they have numerous regional divisions. That said going to away games is not really as much of a big thing in some of the countries....we went to Nice v Toulouse, a trip of about 340 miles for the away team, the other year whilst down there and there were 21 away fans and that was including what appeared to be the wife and two kids of one bloke and they at no point watched the game!!

If you followed Spanish football apart from the main land it is possible to watch games in the middle of the Atlantic (Canneries), Med (Ballleric). Or on another continent, Africa (Ceuta)

Talking of distance an embarrassing episode happened in Brazil I took a 40ish mile trip in land to some god awful place that made Mansfield look like Scunthorpe. On entering the excuse for a ground the teams emerged for the 5pm K O and kicked straight off no preliminaries no coin tossing etc. Oh well it must be the way it's done round here I thought, after 10 min. the home c/forward missed a sitter the crowd virtually pulled down the perimeter fence to get at him and he was subbed immediately, not very forgiving here I thought maybe a destination for Barry Conlon! As H/T approached I purchased a can of ale(debateable) and sat down and was surrounded by a band of scroats wanting my empty can, to weigh in for cash, I guess. At this point the whistle went the players trooped off to howls of derision and the F'in crowd went as well. What the f***.

This stupid American (you have to maintain national pride)had arrived at H/T being an hour late due to not realising I'd crossed a chuffing time zone

My experience of Brazilian football wasn't anywhere near as funny as that, it was underwhelming.
Fluminese v Corinthians at the Maracana. Here's me expecting a crowd of 100'000 fanatics waving banners and lighting flares and instead got an attendance you'd be disappointed to see at the Proact (around 5500).
