Presumably they were aiming to be none down at tea. Although neither Slater or Borrington are particularly free scoring at this level.

Like you said earlier Jon, maybe the trickiest time is now getting through the new ball. Suppose only time will tell.

I suspect playing for tea was a little part of it rather than giving them a boost and how they play now will be more of an indication.

Overs like this help!!

End of over 28 (19 runs) Derbyshire 81/2 (163 runs required)
BT Slater 40* (85b 8x4) PP Chawla 7-2-28-0
S Chanderpaul 2* (4b) MJ Leach 8-3-15-2

27.6 Chawla to Slater, no run
27.5 Chawla to Slater, 4 byes
27.5 Chawla to Slater, 2 no balls
27.4 Chawla to Slater, FOUR
27.3 Chawla to Slater, FOUR
27.2 Chawla to Chanderpaul, 1 bye
27.1 Chawla to Chanderpaul, 4 byes

After 18 byes in the first innings Kieswetter already raced to 17 in this innings! Long stop required!

Shame that Slater's been unable to push a good start into a big score again, especially as he's a Spireite. It could still go either way but I'd love us to do it.

And like Somerset yesterday we really could have done without a last over wicket.

Finish on 127-4, another 117 needed tomorrow....suspect it will go to the wire!! At least Surrey look like losing...Ollie Raynor with 14 wickets in the match so far!! 8 in the first innings, 6 so far in the second.

chanderpaul owes us a good knock. 117 with 6 wickets left means we really should win.............but this is Derbyshire were talking about!

Looking at the forecast for Taunton they should be fine. Just hope we can do it.

Less than ideal start, losing Johnson for a duck.

Down to Shiv and Chesney now, although if we lose either, then Tom Poynton is capable of coming in and getting us over the line. This is gonna be extremely tight either way.
