I'm with you. It's adult league cricket. I've played in sides with nine men where we've won. To achieve that run rate over that length of time takes some doing regardless of the bowling though.

Declaration saved us yesterday as we gave ourselves an extra 5 overs and got the final wicket in the first over of the additional 5 to pick up a vital 27 v Matlock.

Exactly. Likelihood is most of that Eckington side are junior players as well, which makes the acheivement even more impressive. Well done to Cromford for fulfulling the fixture if they are struggling for players, but that doesn't mean Eckington should change the way they play.
I once played a Sunday league game at Eckington where we went for 390 odd in 40 overs.

Eckington only have 13 senior players registered - the rest are juniors. The way their club has progressing in the last 2-3 years is a real credit to them. As it was Cromford actually ended up getting more points than they might have as they didn't declare and they took some bowling points.

If they do it this weekend at least we'll get to go to the match! Conceding games as high as 5N isn't on really. A club like Ambergate should have enough registered adults and available juniors to at least get nine.

It seems to be a difficult time for a lot of clubs at the moment. We had plenty missing this weekend, but we turned out 32 players to cover our three fixtures. I'm not going to open up the age old junior system debate, but if it wasn't for ours, which has come on leaps and bounds in the last 5 years since I've been at the club, then there is no way we'd be able to have three teams and no way we'd fulfill all our fixtures at this time of year. Think we had 6 or 7 players all under 14 play this weekend.

We put three full elevens out too despite us missing 10+ senior players for a variety of injury/football/holiday reasons.

Dont know all the details but i was told that Ambergate lost a lot in the winter for some reason. There seemed to be a lot of new registrations going through for them on the league twitter feed but no idea as to the standard of some of them. They must have a youth setup but the issue from that is how many are 13 and over. Under 13s need special dispensation to play these days.

Yeah, I'd heard you had 9 potential 1st team players missing at one point.
A lot of credit has to go to teams like CBCC, who instead of moaning about bigger clubs, lack of facilities and difficulties in progression of juniors etc have just got on with it, got themselves a decent 1st XI and a really good junior set up. Definitely a club on the up.

Think it's under 12's mate. If you're an under 12 (as in cricket age group) you pretty much have to be part of the Derbyshire set up to play adult cricket. We have two under 12's with dispensation this season (of which one is a girl), which makes me think it's 12.

Fair to say that the merger with Shirebrook\Tibshelf helped the Barbs but you see so many of these mergers go belly up they've done well to make it work. Normally something happens that means whilst clubs join in name one set of players tend not to go with them. The Killamarsh\Bolsover merger a prime example of it not working. The merged 2nds were meant to play at Bolsover but apparently numerous Killamarsh players opted to play for the 3rds instead so they didnt have to play their "home" games at Bolsover.

Could well be...not something i'm really involved with just knew that even some very good youngsters cant play adult cricket without DCB coaches saying its ok.

Probably worst time of year with holidays, Test cricket and football starting back bnefore youn get to season ending injuries. Whittington Wanderers really struggled this week but did field 22. Missing seven first teamers meant bringing in "new" players for debuts. Both teams were well beaten with top of the table Hallam declaring against the firsts. At least one of the debutants, a 14 year-old thrown into the first eleven, picked up two wickets and spent a few overs in the middle.

I wouldn't fancy being on the admin side of it any longer (did my stint previously - for now at least!) given so much is going on that's for sure. I think we're progressing the right way and the way I hoped when we approached the 'Barbs about taking our County League place and merging (of sorts). There are two or three other decent players we're hoping to bring in for next season and I'd like to think we can progress towards Div 3 over a shortish period of time. A new pavilion with a bar would make things so much easier though.
