Dissing? Not at all, Frears. Maybe using the words 'weak'/'weakest' gave the wrong impression.

My point is/was our team looks so strong that if you were to consider which is our weakest position it is covered by someone like Talbot, who I rate, or Richards who is a proven goalscorer at this level. It is a great position to be in for CFC.

Would be a valid point if the so-called weakest players were in fact weak links.Bizarre post mate and makes you appear to be looking for negatives

Spot on.

If Drew and Rico are weak links then heaven help L2 this season.

Big big task but I like it!

Big ask mate. Looking at summat like 30-32 wins to achieve it and single figures in the L column.

That said we weren't far away in 10/11 (14pts??) and were it not for the abject performances against the likes of Morecambe,Hereford,Crewe and Burton, and Tommy's bizzare misjudgment at Barnet, then we'd have achieved it.

Definitely do-able.

I'm so confident this season, that it's slightly unnerving me, thinking that this is all just too good to be true. Being a lifelong Spireite I'm sure you'll understand exactly, that feeling.

Weakest was meant as relative to the rest of the team, which looks very strong on paper. I wasn't trying to suggest that position will be 'weak' at all. It appears a number of posters understand what I was trying to say, whilst others don't. My post is obviously a little confusing or gives a mixed message so to clarify:

I rate Talbot and Richards - they are good players.
We have a very strong side.
However, my post may have 'appeared' it wasn't intended to be negative - quite the opposite.

Evatt is amongst my favourite players that have worn the blue.
I cried when I heard that Evatt was signing for us again.
(Almost as much as I cried when I heard he was leaving us)

This is fantastic news....worthy of bringing me out of my self-imposed-ignore-the-preseason-rumours exile ^_^
It's not the despair. I can take the despair. It's the hope I can't stand.

The confusion arises because Drew was sometimes caught out by being in an unfamiliar role when he first went to RB. His sheer pace usually got him out of trouble, but sometimes he looked a bit naive. He seems to have put that behind him now, and grown into the position.
Going forward there can't be any better in L2, though his crossing can still improve.
Looking like Player of the Season so far, but could be edged out by Jimmy Ryan.

I've said for a long time Drew can get away with playing full back at League 2 level as more often than not his pace gets himself out of trouble but at times he still does things and looks like someone who isnt a full back. Darikwa's mobility and cover helps him as well. If we were to go up to League 1 then we would need a full back because as we saw last time he struggled against better wingers where he couldnt rely on his pace to get him out of trouble.

Yes,we can lump Smith in there too with the crossing, that is my only gripe if we are dissecting every little attribute.
God I hate this league.

This thread on the Blackpool forum gave me a warm glow inside....

http://fansonline.ne....php?id=1525328

Same feeling here mate - what a brilliant set of comments. I had the same warm glow when I looked at the photo of Evo on the main site - that determined chin jutting out, gritted teeth, and the fierce glare in the eyes! The picture brought back memories of some of the incredible performances he put in when he was with us; the one that sticks in my mind was an away game at Bradford when we came from behind to snatch a great draw. Evo had battled with Dean Windass for 90 minutes and they'd knocked lumps out of each other, but Evo stopped him from scoring. I can see him now, hobbling over to us away fans on a swollen ankle, holding his boot in one hand and waving his fist in the air. This guy will be a fantastic inspiration for his team - mates and the supporters; I can't wait to see him on the pitch in a Spireites shirt.

No, I know FF.

It wasn't a dig at Doughnut or Frears. I understood what they were getting at, and didn't see it as either of them slating Drew or Rico. Just an observation of the quality that surrounds them.

I can also see however, how some may have thought it bring critical, and overly negative.

Ian Evatt - brilliant news. What a coup he is for us - didn`t see that coming. Heard a rumour on here Friday but didn`t want to get excited till he had actually signed. He is just what we need.
1 He is a LEADER (which we have not had for a long while).
2 He has HEIGHT which will help the defence.
3 He will score the odd goal or two from corners or set pieces which will be needed.
4 He is a WINNER.
5 He turned down other clubs to come here.
6 His wife comes from town.
7 He saved the club money when he left us.
Most of all deep down I think he`s a spireite so will be welcomed back with open arms. Apparently he passed a stiff medical, so that injury doubt has been taken away and its just a matter of getting some games under his belt
to get back to full fitness. Well done to everyone concerned to get him here. Exciting times!

Dave Allen told me last night it was a medical over 2 days, and there are clauses in his contract relating to injuries etc

A mate of mine at the Club tells me Ian Evatt has agreed terms subject to a strict medical. Apparently he sustained a very bad knee injury which lead to his release from Blackpool, however if he demonstrates fitness he'll be pulling on the royal blue of Town once more.

I hope those nob-heads that gave grief to the bloke who wrote off thousands of pounds of what he was due when leaving Town are more generous on this return.

On that subject I'm also told Cresswell signed for Fleetwood with a very heavy heart. Town was his destination of choice all along, and though we upped our offer to six figures Fleetwood's nearly two hundred grand bid - with add-ons - was simply too much to turn down.

Again I hope his reception at the Proact reflects that fact.

Fantastic work Chris - Your informant was spot on - When I first saw this I didn't believe it - But its true, Evatt is a spireite!! Again.

It shows just how good a squad we have put together, that the "weakest" position is RB!!!!

I wonder what odds the bookies are offering for back to back promotions?

I have been watching town since 78 season, and never ever have I felt this confident going into a season.
A new hope.

Nah- that was 1980-81, after we had signed Danny Wilson to add the team that had just missed out on promotion to the second tier. And looked what happened to that side!
