I'm with you there. I reckon I could get us promoted this year.

We all seem to be putting alot on this signing and I have too gone along with the wave of euphoria that this news has bought. But we must bring this all back down to earth and remember the task Cookie has at hand this season with the squad he has. We will not win this league just because Ian Evatt and the others have signed for our club.

Am I the only one not to be overly fussed by the possible signing of Evatt? Very good player and I'm sure he'll do very well but we are well covered in that position. I think I'd be more excited if we signed the young lad from Blackburn who did so well on saturday on a permanent contract. I'm always happy to see good players join the club though :D

When he does sign (not if but when) do you think he will end his career here?

These days time isn't given to managers to create a long standing successful team. And Cookie is no exception. Instant rewards are demanded by the boards and the rising number of manager sackings is proof of that. Pressure is now a hazard of the job!!

I think the whole deal surrounds the salary of Hird. Irrespective of opinions it looks as if he will be paid up on a reduced deal therefore allowing him to find another club.

It is pretty obvious the club want to off-load.
God I hate this league.

No you are not. History throughout football does tell us that the resigning of legends can in fact be leg ends. A good example here was Alan Birch, nothing like the player he had been in Arthur Cox's side. Apparently, per our history website, signed by the Chairman, not the manager.

Hopefully if Evatt signs, he in fact turns out to be best bit of business we have ever done, scoring 10 goals from corners and forming, wth Cooper, the best central defensive unit seen for many a year.

But that is said with heart, not head.

Where??

Why pay up a player before the season has even started, when you risk then having to find a replacement if injuries/suspensions go against us?

Hird has shown he is committed to the cause, and like Trots last season, has been nothing but a true pro since his listing.

I really don't get why chucking £50k-£100k at him now just simply let him walk away is good business.

SERIOUSLY or is this a Wind Up.

I've watched his running and effort every game and barring the odd pass he has been totally outstanding with minimal fuss and no nonsense approach. Even with Trotts at the side of him.

Maybe that's why he wears the Armband as Cook believes in leading by example and Coopers is a good one to follow.

I would sooner have Edwards & Cooper with Hird & Brown as back up then Evatt anyday.

Evatt was a brilliant assett years ago, it would be the same argument as wanting Sir Jack back based on just because there WERE good players.

The team is balanced and looking good against Championship and League One teams, why panic buy now.

If that's the case I don't know how any player can sell themselves to you. Overall, Cooper has been excellent since he joined us. The odd dodgy game but one of the better centre halves in this league, for sure (imo).

i wouldnt say this is a panic buy

the difference is that evatt is 5 years younger than sir Jack and has been playing at a much higher level so i dont buy that argument. regardless if evatt played for us before or not , this is a top signing (if it happens!)

And then he went and spoiled it by being an ever present in the Premier League.

From what i can make out through the odd whisper on twitter, is that Evatt is having his medical today and that the photo session has been delayed until tomorrow - most likely because of this medical not being done on time.

Not sold on Cooper are you having a laugh? Although he's not hit top form yet.

I don't think there's a club in the entire football league who procrastinate more than we do.

The media day being postponed until tomorrow sort of suggests it may happen tomorrow if its going to.
