Delighted to see our two wins unfold via BBC text from a Devon caravan. Big game v Lancs now but they're very beatable.

Watched the highlights of the Leicestershire win whilst having a few bottles of lager trying to forget about a dire defeat for us on Saturday evening...looked a good all round performance by Derbyshire. Win in the next game and we can possibly look forward!!

Thankfully we also managed a much better performance on Sunday at Alfreton picking up 27 points to move into the top 2.

Just looking at the weekend's scores. One of our guys got 147 and we managed not to win. Not seen a full scorecard but given the other opener got 51 it looks like we were on course to chase a big-ish score. We were missing two of our better (regular) players though (not including myself in that!) so the draw points keep us in contention. Denby next week shouldn't be as good as Duffield.

We had a mare against Langley Mill, bowling first we got an early wicket and then after they rebuilt we got three after drinks only to let it slip again. We werent great in the field and one catch went down in particular that cost us 30/40 quick runs near the end. Then batting wise we never started and crumpled to 104 all out. Thankfully we had little time to dwell on it which was good and went to Alfreton yesterday to thump them for the second time in a few weeks. Batted first and on a decent wicket we started well despite a wicket falling on about 30 until we lost a few in quick succession only for a couple of our younger lads to bat really well. After consolidating and running well they took advantage to take 78 from the last 6 overs when the seamers returned with one lad in particular doing the damage as he was run out trying to get a second to get his hundred on the last ball...his second fifty must have come off about 15 balls all sailing over long on or long off. We then got into them early, i got both openers to have them 5-2 after 3 then a little partnership in the middle which we managed to break and then one of our part time bowlers had an inspired 3 over spell taking 4 wickets to wrap it up bowling some good pace and getting good bounce which the tailenders didnt fancy at all...in fact i'm not sure many would have fancied facing it at our level. Shoves us back up to second and now played same number of games as those around us.

Problem now is how the holiday season affects us...few of us miss next week but we do have a Pilsley week coming up which means we might get away with it a bit.

we had a double header an all this weekend

bowled a side out for 27 on Saturday then knocked them off for 4 (they moaned a lot about the pitch despite it not being responsible for any dismissals) bat batting by both sides really, just that they were absolutely rubbish!

then bowled the opposition out for 75 on Sunday and knocked them off for 1 in 10 overs

I wasn't required to do anything in both games - after opening the batting all season that was weird!

I could have done with doing not much yesterday as legs and shoulders were aching but had a pleasurable rest in the sun watching our batsman flay it about...some decent hits going for 6. Even down the hill at Alfreton took some doing after the first 5 or 6 overs.

It's shaping up to be a decent end in 5N. Langley Mill will win it but second place is between you, us, Eckington and Duffield in my opinion.

You've got to say it was a crap track haven't you after that? That's the default response from any cricketer at any level.

seen a few low scores at the weekend, to be expected with the weather (soft on top) and uncovered tracks

the umpire at Ilkeston on Sunday wanted to abandon the game at one stage because the ball was popping in their innings (it wasn't horrific, but not great) that was at an ex County ground!

Our opposition on Saturday were just pathetic, they batted like idiots and blamed the pitch - truth is, bad batting and our opening bowler probably bowling one of the best spells every seen in 4N!

And the umpires at our game on Saturday never once mentioned the pitch being dangerous..... cos it wasn't!

Big problem in the league is a generation of batsmen growing up on south to mid Derbyshire dead tracks where the ball doesn't get above knee height so they get all mardy when anything bounces waist height from back of a length, one of the chief moaners on Saturday got out gloving a short of a length ball from a quick bowler to short leg from about waist height, he had lunged fully forward at it the idiot, learn how to play of the back foot you muppet!

Its starting to look that way. To be honest Mill were solid but not outstanding and the bowler that took 6 wickets in the end was on the verge of being taken off halfway through his second over having conceded 15 runs or so then our opener nicks one, then he bowls someone two balls later, stays in the attack and comes out with 6 wickets! If the Barbs that turned up against us stays away you'll be in there, Eckington will hope that a couple of their lads keep out of the firsts otherwise they may struggle and Duffield depends on who may get called up to the firsts as well...this is where things may start to go one way or the other as the second teams start to lose players to the first teams etc.

at least they didn't take 35 overs to make 19 at South Wingfield did against us a few years back, we knocked them off in 3 overs!

Slightly different batting first as you just try to stop wickets falling but chasing 17 you just go out, play a few shots and even if you score a couple of boundaries through 3rd man thats nearly halfway there. Cant believe it was a run saving field either...defending 17 you have to try and take a few wickets so get the catchers in everywhere.

Good start from Derbyshire with three early wickets, Footitt comes on and has katich caught behind only for ump not to give it and then proceeds to take 20 off the over getting them back on track. Was quite obvious as well. Thankfully Clare has got him next over.

The drop catch and poor throw in has cost them 2 wickets, and if Footitt hadn't had that horrendous over they would have been 28/4
