Adams was a Chemistry teacher (and psycho)

I used to like Mr Currie (geography) and O Donovan (Biology)

Adams was completely bonkers, and spent half his time raving pi**ed, then he used to scare the crap out of everybody by letting his Alsatian 'webel' run round the yard.
I met currie a few years after school as he was keeping wicket in the Yorkshire and Derbyshire league

Lol, forgot about those episodes with Yorkie Denny, Sat at the back figuring out who would play and where. Also remember a few tennis balls used to get launched (not guilty) whilst Yorkie wrote on the blackboard, and a incident with the metal bin... Didn't someone let off a banger in the bin half way throug a lesson? And I seem to recall Yorkie losing it - I'm not surprised - and throwing a blackboard
rubber at someone?

Did anybody do any work in yorkes class?
I was bet I couldn't get my leg behind my head, I did but I got stuck and ghandi wasn't best pleased, if I remember rightly sarge Singh very nearly died laughing, but he didn't B****Y help me!

See attached article from the Telegraph. I caught the last years of Cec (and Chesterfield Boys) as he retired. Definitely one of the few teachers that actually left an impression. Inspirational and equally frightening at the same time, his lessons were entertaining to say the least. We were 'parochial peasants that knew nothing'. Teaching methods that wouldn't last one minute in today's schools - seem to remember several kids being stood on their chairs being asked economics questions and being grappled by his (huge) hands! Also recall his legendary run down the corridor with his hand out in front during a fire bell.....and being kidnapped during my free period to play tennis. Where would the statue be erected?

I remember Grafton, Mrs Fox the swimming teacher (why would anyone want to drop their pants in front of her??), Yorkies lessons were just an excuse for a classroom riot! I still remember him bald head black v neck jumper stood at the front of the class trying the teach us science whilst we just carried on throwing things around the class room or listen to our walkmans.

Yes 'Fod' was a brilliant biology teacher but also our football team coach. We had a good team too!

He used to bring the Alsasian into our A level class! Useless teacher but great lessons!

If you did then we would have been in the same year. Wonder if I know you?
I was in 3JHM, 4 SDA, 5CJA the GOD for the 2 6th forms.

I must have been the year above you, I had Archie Moore, Dapper then Crowie Joey Allen as my form teachers. I left in 84.

Anybody remember the Maths teacher Des Pollard? He was so hopeless even the other teachers used to throw snowballs at him when he walked across the yard in winter.

Does anybody know if Ces Thompsons book is available locally. Just had a look on Amazon and they are wanting £25 for it!

Des Pollard, the most inept teacher at controlling kids I've ever seen. Wore the most god awful ties, so much so I seem to recall one of the more disruptive pupils taking a pair of scissors to one and he stood there and let it happen.

I must have been luck with the book, got it for £5. Just checked amazon, select the hardback edition and keep clicking that option and you should be able to get a 2nd hand one for £5-£8.

Yes I remember Des Pollard the Maths teacher......... Amy Yorke(Physics).......Dapper(English) the funniest one for me though and people must remember him was Ferd Naylor who taught Spanish.... he smoked liked a chimney and had yellow fingers from the nicotine and worn the same green suit everyday..... he had NO control whatsoever. I went to Spain on a joint holiday with the girls from St Helena run by Amy Yorke and Ferd Naylor...... was one of best holidays I've ever had. Was hilarious from start to finish :-)

I take it that Jock "pigeon killer" Hetherington was before your time then

Jock was there in my day (1956-1962). I liked him. He taught maths and geography and said I would never pass O level maths whilst ever I had a hole in my arris. I proved him wrong, much to his delight, I recall. His geography lessons inspired me to a long future career, so thank you Jock, I doff my Bradley cap to you!

Des Pollard? I'm sure he ended up at Newbold in the early 90s.

There's some fantastic memory lane comments here, cheers guys! I've got loads to add but not the time just now to do so ...... So, for starters, I was at Chesterfield Boys '84 to '89 and does anyone recall Ms Brazier, one of only four (?) female teachers, 'taught' chemistry and every single lesson was completely wasted through her absolute inability to control a class of lads?

More anon.....
