Do Our Media Team Watch The Game?

"The former Tottenham Hotspur trainee was then unlucky not to put the game out of reach, when he was harshly adjudged to have illegally poked the ball out of the grasp of Tommy Lee when he had denied Zola's powerful header with a superb, reflex save."
The goal was clearly disallowed because their player was standing a yard offside before going for the rebound. A bit of a clue for the hapless reporters - the linesman standing with his flag in the air.
I don't know what has happened to the OS match reports recently, they used to be well written and to reflect the game I had just watched; now they are full of rubbish like the above, totally overwritten journalese gush -and factually inaccurate to boot. If we are paying them to produce this garbage we are being ripped off.

same reporter? Two wrongs don't make a right. I can imagine the conversation in the press box "I didn't see that, I was typing, what happened?" "Don't know, I missed it too, what shall we make up?"

definitely offside - referee was going to give the goal, looked across to the linesman, saw the flag up and gave the offside. Rather proves the point about journalists - none of them were watching the game and all agree a 'party line' and don't get me started on PA's infamous inaccuracies or I'll go on all day! Suffice it to say, if the PA reporter said we were playing in blue, I'd investigate why we weren't playing in blue

There was a man down yesterday, Stuart was unable to make the game due to work commitments so Sam had to help on Player in the first half (Richard Stacey came on for the second) so at the time of the action you describe, one person was having to make notes, prepare the report, tweet and update other sources - you should try all of that simultaneously, it's tricky!
At Southend next week I'll be commentating on Player (on my own), doing reports for Radios Sheffield and Derby, making notes for a Star report that has to be filed 'on the whistle' and then do 1000 words for the Green Un to be filed on Saturday morning. I'll say now that I'll not see every kick, but I'll be doing the best I can.
For the record, my Green Un report had the 'goal' struck off for offside!

Hi Phil.
The club surely has a responsibility to get someone to help you. What will happen if you go under the proverbial sledge?.

yes he did, I was sitting behind him in the East Stand and he definitely gave offside - not sure if it was for the original attempt or the rebound but he certainly flagged. Whatever, the goal was correctly disallowed - in fact it could have been disallowed twice so couldn't we claim two goals chalked off equals a 1-0 win? must be worth a try
