Really. I make it five months. Not sure many players are even in the country though.

They were in for fitness tests mainly i think which probably included that silly bleep test thing that everyone hates!! As you say though a fair few are away....Redfern, Whiteley and possibly Poynton are away in Oz at that Lehman Academy whilst Burgoyne and Ben Slater are playing for Houghtons club in Zimbabwe, Burgoyne hit a century and Slater 89 in a win back end of last week.

Madsen & Groenewald will, I suspect, be in South Africa.

Does seem that over here we are scared of players who do things differently with just natural talent....had Malinga been English he wouldnt have gone on to play County Cricket i suspect as some coach somewhere who'd read a few books would have spent ages trying to get him to bowl with a "proper" action and Malinga would more than likely have lost what he had or probably tossed it off fed up with the meddling.

We very nearly messed up Andersons career in a similar way but thankfully someone saw the light and he was able to go back to what he did naturally which made him effective. Think something similar happened with Devon Malcolm as well.

You see it all the time in club cricket with kids over coached to within an inch of their lifes to look proper and correct and for a lot of them it makes them ineffective.

Thank god for Swanny!! It'd look pretty sick if it wasn't for him this morning!

Sehwag doing his once a year thing of getting them a flyer but rarely does he do it when the ball is doing a bit!! He's fun to watch when he does it mind you. Possibly a bit of an error to not pick Monty as well mind you.

I was far from amused after getting up at 0355 to watch it! Think Sehwag has a point to prove after his much vaunted return during the last series turned into a damp squib!
On the subject of Holmes - the ECB should be doing everything they can to get the most out of this type of talent - the Malinga example is an excellent one - but no, they will just brush him aside as it's "not do the done thing" - I'd assume if a player for any other Test nation had a similar unique talent they would be embraced and developed to the hilt...

When it cut to the blokes with ice lollies and bumble was at his best,"bet it's a mivvi", I had to do a double take.. The bloke with the glasses umpired my lad in the Derbyshire u12s final and presented the junior awards at Alfreton this year.

Mainly because he's a big drawer of the crowds, only thing is the three Sub-continent teams all have the counter for him in a left arm spinner!

People wanted KP in the side cos he is our best player, the one that wins games. He may not have done much in this game but that doesn't mean he shouldn't be in.

This left arm spin is another classic media build up as well. The way he plays he is no low susceptible to that than anything else.

I think he has a genuine issue with left arm spinners.

Yeah, he wants to launch their balls into the ether, but wants to do it as soon as they come on instead of waiting a few balls to see what they do first! Time he took some lessons from Cookie (Alistair not Paul) and play himself in first then start attacking.

Sky showed a graphic of his test dismissals v left arm spinners and every one bar one was a ball on course to strike the stumps. Obvious you may think but this shows his failings for me. Too keen to get inside the line & too slow to adapt to the non-spinning ball.
