Through all the talk of Tommy Wright and Paul Cook, one thing is abundantly apparant to me, we need an additional striker with some desperation.
We started the season with an extra player in Jordan Bowery. When he left, we expected him to be replaced and he never was.
We have no physical strength, burning pace or aerial ability on our forward line. Even a fit Mark Richards is not that sort of player.
Granted, it has not helped that we have decided to play 1 up front, but we just don't look enough of an attacking threat over 90 minutes. The ball does not get held up well enough. We win so few offensive headers it is an embarrasment and unless Trotman is in the team our corners are verging on pointless.
I will be amazed if we don't see a few players moved out and a few new options brought in. I expect to see Evans sent back early. Although I like Ridehailgh, I think he'll go back too.
This would free up space for a striker with a physical presence and a centre half.
The positives for me (from Paul Cook's point of view) was seeing him ask the players to push up and shouting to get in the oppositions face when they were in possession.
I do have serious reservations about his appointment (based on his track record) but a move towards positive play and an insistence on passion from the players ticks two boxes.
