According to some BBC reporter the Tredwell situation is still up in the air...

Ed Dawes ‏@Ed_Dawes97
Derbyshire CC in "open dialogue" with the ECB about Kent's inclusion of Eng spinner James Tredwell for Derbyshire final innings #falcons

Looking that way.

Yorkshire are going to win which I think will put them on 172 points. If we lose then we are on 173 points. Kent would then be on 167 points.

The Hants situation is interesting in that they are going to have to chase 400+ and they have to win. So presuming they don't or they draw, they are virtually out of the equation as the best they can hope for is 152 points which helps us next week. However we go into that final game on the back of a losing draw and a loss and I would imagine nerves will play a part.

Now for the weird one to hang your hat on. If we can somehow bat to a draw, which I know is a pipedream, we would be on 176 points, Yorks 173 and Kent 154. You do the math or a rain dance!

Big day and we're making a pig's ear of it. You just know we'll be two or three down at the end.

Watch Tredwell take six.

What defines exceptional circumstances?

This one stinks regardless of the result. They are playing him because they want to win and don't trust the player they chose who already has played two days in the match. So they are using 12 players - none of whom are injured or have to leave the game for any other reason. Bad rule, taken advantage of because someone was stupid enough to not clarify its meaning thus enabling the opposition to take advantage.

If Kent win, they will still be third and five points behind Derbyshire and they may also have provided the spark we were looking for going into that last game.

Come on Essex - put Hants out of the mix.

I partly understand the rule being there to stop counties losing out on players who get called up for tests, miss out and could easily spend most of the summer sat on their backside not playing due to the timing of county games and test games. However this by Kent is them taking the mick out of the rule as the player didnt get called up then miss out on selection which is what its there for. However as it stands i suspect they are working within the rules if not the spirit of the game.

Wonder if they would have been so keen to include Tredwell if they were batting ?

Certainly smells a bit wiffy
50+ points survival
72+ points Play off's
83+ points Party Time

I wonder where Martin Guptill is? Can we call him up to bat on the last day

Surely the ECB would give us exceptional circumstances!

It's not Derbyshire's fault though that James Tredwell is an England player is it? However so long as the ECB get their wish that Hampshire and Yorkshire go up, then all's fair with English Cricket.

This inclusion of Tredwell is not what the regulation was put in to do but as it reads currently, and there is confirmation on the DCCC website now, he is all good to play in the ECBs eyes. Will be interesting to see if it prompts a re-write of the regulation however as this is not what its meant to be used for. Its there to allow players called up but then not picked in the final 11 to actually go and play cricket whereas in this case the player did get picked.

Exactly how dare little old Derbyshire think that they could win promotion to the first division!

Without looking at the table where will we stand v third if we lose, Yorkshire win (have they already?) and Hants don't win v Essex?

By 8 Wickets, so glad the rain that's been following us around decided to burger off! As it stands the mighty Tykes are top, but as soon as your 4 BP's go on for what you've done so far and if you manage to bat out tomorrow and achieve a draw (or even an unlikely win) you'll go back top. We need to avoid defeat against Essex to go up. As I said before I'd quite happily let Derbys win the Div 2 title as long as we go up on your coat-tails with the Lankies going the other way!

We haven't played as well since Guptill went back on international duty. Khawaja sadly is not a strong overseas signing - he's only the one innings of distinction (when we beat Kent) and I can't see how he solidifies our batting. Just look at our batting v bowling points this season. Guptill gives you confidence as you know he'll get a decent start and rarely gets bogged down. It must take some pressure off Madsen.

However assuming we lose tomorrow we are still top and if Hants don't win, we would be clear of Kent by 5 points so we just need to match whatever they do next week in Cardiff to be up. The Hants result will surely influence their attitude going into next week??

It seems to me that the real issue is that, apparently, ECB specifically said in an e-mail to the teams before the game, that if Tredwell played at Trent Bridge, he couldn't play in the Derbys match. If the ECB has gone back on that, then that is truly abysmal administration.

Aware of some of them but they play in the notts premier league whilst I play in the Derbyshire league so never played against them.

Got lucky with a more than generous lottery grant a few years back which enabled them to build a big indoor practice setup and function room/bar which in turn has boosted their finances massively to allow them to progress. Over the winter they run an indoor league a couple of nights a week with 6/8 teams in over the course of each night and then other nights they rent out the nets as well.

One of the bigger club sides in the area and this was the second time they've made the finals. They actually beat Chesterfield on route to the finals this year.

Can vaguely remember reading summat in The Chad about a lottery grant. I'm not that up on local cricket, but always knew they were one of the local big guns.

Sounds like they've got their house in order. The function room and indoor league monies must be seriously boosting a club of that size coffers.

Here you go :-
http://www.worksopgu...e-club-1-628227

Basically got £200k for the indoor school thing back in 2001 not long after getting £70k+ for a new pavilion as well. Fair play to them for building on that good fortune, plenty of clubs apply for stuff and get nowt, but they got a nice little helping hand!! Think they have 4 saturday sides and a couple of sunday sides at least now but the first team isnt full of that many local young lads i dont think. Likes of Joe Roots brother who was signed up from Sheffield Collegiate amongst others.
