I'd have Guptill back but not Khawaja as it stands. Blackwell is an interesting call but is he better than Wainwright? I'm not sure it'd be a smart use of the budget.

I think our bowling will be our strongest suit next season just as it's been this.

Blackwell could be a good addition n terms of limited overs stuff and I'm not sure you play him as the main spinner but a middle order bat but more than useful option with the ball if needed in the cc.

Agree on Guptill - not sure what the rules are on having him for the season though.

Off we go again chaps.

No predictions this time as I am a Jonah, other than the weather looks set fair for four days at all three key games.

Kent are a half decent side. What are the permutations here?

Will depend on NZs schedule but i suspect its highly doubtful he will be available for the full season...very few top quality overseas are these days!!

Meanwhile down at Kent....

Last Bat RWT Key c †Poynton b Turner 9 (49m 34b 1x4 0x6) SR: 26.47
Fall of wicket: 19/1 (10.5 ov); Partnership: 19 runs, 10.5 overs, RR: 1.75

Excellent start...

Not sure to be honest other than full points from a win would see us up i think.

34/2 - it is a bright start.

I also note that Essex are not playing David Masters against Hampshire - I think they might need him.

Be nice to knock Northeast over sooner rather than later.

Glamorgan made a decent start v Yorkshire....that should start a collapse now! ;)

Brief update from Cricinfo....lost some time in the game already due to the sun!!

11.55pm: David Lloyd at Kent v Derbyshire

Bloomin’ weather! The scorers reckon we’ve lost the thick end of 10 minutes’ play this morning because of batsmen being dazzled by the sun glinting off car windscreens. Never have this trouble when it’s raining...

The most dazzling event of the session, though, had nothing to do with rays. Having beaten the outside edge several times and seen one snick fly over slips, the visitors inadvertently hit upon a more successful tactic: first change Mark Turner gave Key the chance to leg glance, only for keeper Tom Poynton to hold a stunning catch – one glove, full length dive, yards to his left – off the face of the bat.

It was a brilliant piece of work by the stumper, the sort of thing that really lifts a side. Lo and behold, Tim Groenewald – having bowled well without luck – soon pinned Alex Blake lbw.

Derbyshire are bowling impressively and will be pleased with 42 for two off 20 overs.

One thing I love about cricket is the ebb and the flow. At the end of this session we are on top but it could easily switch come tea etc.

However I hope Glamorgan win all three of their sessions!

Glamorgan past 100 without losing any wickets having been asked to bat, Foster out for Essex last ball of the session to leave them 86-5 whilst Worcestershire have managed to get past 50...60-9 after scoring 13 from the last 5 balls!!

I think I'll take a day off next week for the game at Derby, weather permitting.

My daughter has her first day at school on Tuesday so I am scuppered. I think there might be a fair turnout, especially if we do well on day one.

140-6, a second wicket for Whiteley whilst Hampshire have secured full bowling bonus points after skittling Essex for 180.
