Another batting point - up to 5 points in total and a lead too.

266 all out - lead of 21. Time for Tony to take his 50th wicket!

Got to be happy with that given the conditions, and starting the day 3 down barely into double figures.

Couple of late wickets would be nice, set it up nicely to attack them in the first session tomorrow, weather prevailing.

Not holding out much hope for anything other than a draw, but I think 3 of those in our last 3 will just about see us home and dry.
Mug?? Being wrong never gets boring!

Forecast is decent from now through tomorrow and into next week, which is handy as i'm at Trent Bridge next Wednesday for the last ODI v Sth Africa, so should get a full day in tomorrow. Not sure if they can play longer today and tomorrow to make up some lost time from yesterday.

First wicket down as Groenwald has one of the openers caught behind. 24-1, they lead by 3.

A draw is a decent enough outcome I think.

Probably a better day for bowling than batting so no doubt its been a struggle especially starting the day 20 odd for 3.

Have to be honest and say Poyntons last couple of innings have surprised me. Very good keeper, stumped me once and i barely moved my back foot, but never thought he would be good enough to get runs at County level. Hopefully these last couple of knocks become his more consistent level and not a flash in the pan.

aye, wonder who's been teaching him to bat, didn't look convincing at Cross last season - good keeper though, caught me off the shoulder of the bat from a Tom Knight quicker ball (name dropping!!!!)

A draw here is ok, all set up for a great game last vs Hampshire, Friday 14th September may be a good day to get down to the county ground

elsewhere anyone seen the fall out from Murali Kartik running someone out backing up with a 'mankad' and then captain Gareth Batty not calling him back?

totally in the right in my opinion, never understood why you were supposed to warn a batsman who is effectively cheating by trying to steal a couple of yards backing up before the ball is delivered

I see Gloucestershire have declared, setting the Porkies a target of around 300.

Highly unlikely they'll reach that before close of play though.

Fingers crossed.

Having just logged in the situation doesn't exactly look promising at any of the three grounds.

I know we'll still be in the lead whatever happens but we could do without losing this one.

Two stumpings??

Draw seems most likely still but Durston and Redfern are kicking on. (that should ensure a wicket)

England done well bowling them out for 211 at what is normally a high scoring ground at the Oval. Be nice if we could win this one and then there should be something to play for when i go to Trent Bridge on Wednesday.

To be fair forecast is for some sun and i'll be having a few beers so the cricket may be a little secondary!!

PS...Derbyshire appear to be having a good go at losing!!

I am getting anxious now even though there are only two games left. You could see Hants, Tkes and Kent winning their next game which could leave 4 teams on or around the same points. We need to win one more game after today's results as I don't think two draws are going to be enough - unless we take some serious batting points.

Or am I being overly negative?

Time to find some of that early season form and for a big knock!

Think you are getting a bit nervy...not negative...as i suspect many Derbyshire fans are doing who arent used to being in this position. We need our big players to step up for one last push.

Winning it would be nice but top 2 is the priority and we have a 23 point cushion there. Looking at the remaining fixtures you'd expect Yakshire to beat Glamorgan but Essex on their own turf could be interesting. We probably have the more difficult final two games...bit of rain would be nice! ;)

LV County Championship - Division Two
Gloucestershire v Northamptonshire, Bristol, 10:30
Hampshire v Essex, Southampton, 10:30
Kent v Derbyshire, Canterbury, 10:30
Yorkshire v Glamorgan, Headingley, 10:30

We'll be fine. Even we can't muck this one up.

Side will need some tampering for next season mind. No one has explained me yet how Johnson's ended up back at Warwickshire despite signing until the end of the season. Hopefully he's available to be signed (to be fair we've had some good unwanted players and they've tapped up our overpaid ones - Welch, Groenewold v Botha, Clarke).

2013 4 Day Side

Madsen
New Overseas
New Signing
Durston
Redfern
Whiteley
Johnson (if we can get him)
Wainwright
Clare
Palladino
Groenewald

Bowling looks light to me Westbars. Plenty of flat tracks in Div1 as teams can't afford to lose. We won matches in the Spring when conditions suited our bowlers - we need a Phil DeFreitas type to help share the burden. Also, I would like it if Ian Blackwell came back - local player with plenty of Div 1 experience.

That said, we aren't there yet and conditions look set fair for this week across the country.

Squad for the game starting tomorrow :-
Wayne Madsen ©, Paul Borrington, Usman Khawaja, Wes Durston, Dan Redfern, Ross Whiteley, Alex Hughes, David Wainwright, Peter Burgoyne, Tom Poynton (wk), Tony Palladino, Tim Groenewald, Mark Turner.

Be interesting to see if Blackwell would come back as it would add to batting and bowling plus has good Div 1 experience. Be interesting to see what overseas they go for as well although wouldnt be surprised to see a similar plan to the last two years with Guptill and Khawaja sharing it. Both players appear to have developed and affinity to the club.
