Brings home just how bad the BBC Sports website is.

BBC cricket website still showing mini headline:
Northants retain upper hand. Ahg!

It'll annoy them at Blackwell if they do break it.

This is a tough one for the captain. They need just 25 to break the world record that has stood for over a century. I'd be inclined to let them have a go tomorrow. After all you only live once and the boys will remember the achievement for the rest of their lives. Plenty of time to skittle Northants out. What do others think?

Woops, just noticed that Madsen is skipper. Complications!

Could annoy northants if we bat for a few overs to try but only if we get on with it. Either get out or get there quickly. Personally result comes first so I'd have them in in the morning.

I'd give it 30 minutes, there is plenty of time, draw is still a good result for us.

I'd say have a go. Lose a wicket and declare or as soon as it's done.

If anything it could disrupt them a little. Have to go out and field briefly then ten mins to pad up and get out there to face bowlers who've had their feet up all day.

Strangely a young cricketer works for me and plays div 1 county standard. He was explaining that since northants got collared prepping spinning wickets or swann et al a few years back, the track is almost always prepped as a flatty - a batting paradise - I would think they will bat through most of the morning session on the basis that a draw even at this stage is highly probable.

I really hope they go for it as the teams efforts deserve a headline.

Looking elsewhere a draw won't warm and hants look as though they won't draw.

Memorable day!

With hampshire unlikely to win a draw is not a disaster against northants but a good bowling display could produce a bonus win

Makes the last match of the season against hampshire at home very interesting

Oh by the way see the Yorkshire puddings are playing in the Noddy Cup on sat!

We shouldn't lose from here so may as well go for a win that would leave us sitting pretty. Northants will be very down after that stand plus knackered from a day in the field. We'll be confident with well rested bowlers so may as well have a pop.

Jon - my ten bob says a draw - I'll give you the win for either side!!

If I am wrong I will put 50p in a charity box for you!

Unfortunately i agree with you in thinking its a draw just partly cos of the two first innings scores suggesting the wicket is decent, the time left and i wouldnt be surprised if it rained down there at some point. All this said from the point where we were struggling to avoid the follow on to be talking about even a slim chance of Derbyshire win shows what a great effort yesterday was.

For those interested...some highlights of yesterday :-

Or 5/10mins of long handle from Groenewald who whacks 42 from 35 before getting out. 569 all out. Madsen finishes 231 not out.

Hampshire in a world of trouble...just lost three wickets in four balls.

Leicestershire 356 & 265/8d
Hampshire 181 & 110/7 (46.2 ov)
Hampshire require another 331 runs with 3 wickets remaining

Good chance to put some pressure on now. Even if we end the game as a 'winning' draw it will help boost morale going into next week's game.
