I thought the same except that we cannot survive against good teams with those 4 in midfield. We gotta go 4-5-1 or try an experimental defensive formation and go 3-5-2. I honestly think those 4 give us one of the weakest midfields in the division. It's pitiful seeing Allott struggle without the extra man to give him the ball. He's good when he's given room to play, he's anonimous if he is being closely marked, and he's hopeless at stopping the opposition play maker. Sarfend have a man mountain in there (forget his name) and if it's left to Allott to stop him playing, we are in big trouble.
Good to hear someone else recognising the fact that we have been at our strongest when Roy has played 5 midfielders who get forward in support of the striker. That selection policy has enabled us to dominate games for much of the season, and has put us in the excellent (and unpredicted) position we occupy. I don't go along with the comments I've heard about the 'vast majority' of fans wanting 4-4-2; I think that comes from those miserable people who would finsd something to moan about whatever Roy did, and like to think that they would do it right if they were the manager. As Roy himself says when interviewed, it's not about formations at all, it's about players converting chances into goals. We have made chances with 2 strikers, as v Doncaster, and with 5 in midfield too, so the only reason for not winning is us not scoring when we create the chances. Whatever team Roy selects, we will give teams a good game, and create chances, because this squad has ability and spirit; the rebounds and deflections WILL start dropping for us, and players like Larkin and Hall WILL start getting goals again. I personally think we might get a result v Southend that will surprise a lot of people i.e. a WIN!
