Had the pleasure of Gregor at our table for 2 poty do' s and a more decent footballer you couldn't wish to meet. Felt gutted for the bloke when we released him though he told us earlier to expect it. Like one or two have said he wasn't on bank breaking wages and would have been over the moon to be offered a new deal with us but it didn't come! Football wise if he stays injury free he'll never let you down . Of all the players we've released over the years his let go is probably the one that rankles the most.
But saying that a two year deal with his injury history does seem generous but genuinely pleased for him

Afternoon Spirites. Crewe fan in peace. So what can you tell me about this lad. Strengths, weaknesses, that sort of thing? Cheers in advance.

Shaky start to his CFC career, but persevered and became ever more reliable. Full of heart, and a 100%er.

CH seems to be his natural position. Apparently played there when he was younger before switching to left back.

Has been great for us these last 2 years, especially playing at CH in our promotion season.

Overall, a cracking signing if he stays fit.

Imo Sheridans biggest mistake letting him go, especially with our lack of cover at the back and on the left. Wish he was back here mate tbh.

pleased for gregor that he has got a deal but im surprised it has been offered by a team in a league above.

I'm not at all. Nailed on that his displays when fit these last few years will have caught the eye of L1 clubs.

Really pleased for the lad.

Nothing against the lads attitude and performances as i've been a massive defender of him on these boards over the years but i think the number of posts that include the words "if he stays fit" says a lot about why we let him go as much as anything else.

Spot on!

Every team needs a Gregor Robertson! His only downfall is his injuries. Basically a solid and very reliable lower league defender when fit. Not every player in the lower leagues has has the makings of the Championship or higher (as some fans for some weird reason expect) you always get some fans that can't/ won't except this.
Gregor IS a decent enough league one defender (if he comes back from his long injury lay off again as good as he has done on all his other long injury lay offs).
I would like to think that Sheridan only let him go because of his injuries (but you never know with Sheridan).

Good Luck Gregor - gutted when you was realised.
League ones equivalent of Gary Neville (Mr Reliable). Steady, does exactly whats required and if you don't expect more (can't believe fans look for what players can't do, rather than focus of what they can do) and providing he stays fit, you have a very good player.

Really hope he stays fit and goes down a bomb as he really is overdue a few injury free seasons.

Agreed, a league one defender if he stays fit.

I agreed with every single decision regarding which players were released, except for this.

One of the few players to be at the club since I started supporting, so one of my favourites.

He handled himself very well in a struggling team when in L1 - should do well. I hope he does well.

Before his injuries, he was one of our best players, along with Lowry before his injury... but I bet you've already heard of him :)

A good, cheap acquisition - good luck Gregor!

P.S - Hopefully we play you in a cup competition so we can welcome Gregor and Jamie (maybe) back to the b2net (or whatever it'll be called by then.)

well i rated simon ford. quality centre half. but i suspect the reason he was released was silimar to the reason why they released robertson.

Lets see where he gets fixed up (though in fairness I wish his all the best as he did suffer with injuires and never shirked).

We've been very unlucky in recent times with several players that should have been very good players for us having serious injuries thats ruined them (Gregor is the only one that seems to come back ok)

If you can keep him fit, he's a cracking signing. I can only think that we had doubts about his fitness. I was really surprised we let him go. When he was fit, he always seemed to get the nod forna starting berth. He is a solid, no nonsense left back. He distributes the ball well and has good positional sense. Don't expect to see overlapping runs and crosses. He's a defender first and foremost. His crosses tend to be from deep.

We also used him at Centre Half. Again, he never let us down. Some prederred him as a Centre Half. He is not lighting quick but he is no slouch. Solid in the air.

He's a bubbly character. I expect Crewe fans will slowly be won over by his simple but reliable presence. A good team player. You should be pleased mate. Good luck for the new season my friend.

Cheers for all the replies people. General consensus seems happily to be that, barring any injuries, we have a very solid player on our hands. I'd imagine he'll start the season for us at LB, but should injuries pop up for him, we have adequate cover for a change.

Looks to be a good signing and i'm pleased we've got him. Best of luck to yourselves next season.

If he stays fit, and plays Left side CB he will be the best defender at your club.

Had some terrible luck with injuries and has done well to get back to fitness.
A new hope.

I agree. Definitely his natural, and best position. He was a relevation when playing there for us.

Not surprises in the slightest a L1 club have picked him up. Just a tad disappointed he's not still with us really.

I always liked him as a player. He's tough both physically and mentally. During his time with us, a vocal section of the fans used him as a scapegoat early on (to be honest, he had a run of poor games - although he wasn't the only one in the team struggling at the time, but he seemed to kop for all the flack and some fans took out their frustrations on him). He didn't react but kept his head down, battled through it and emerged a much better player. That shows mental toughness. Since then he's had two really bad injuries but battled back both times to reclaim a place in the starting 11 and put in some good performances. He's not flashy or lightening quick but he's good in the air and a tough and determined tackler who reads the game well. He's also willing to put his body on the line to block shots etc. Like many others, I was disappointed when he was released (and still think it was a poor decision by our manager) but I'm pleased that he's got himself a new Club. If he's fit enough to play, he won't let you down.
If nothing acts faster than anadin, why do we buy anadin?
