I have never seen the sense or the value in abusing our own players. In the coming weeks, I hope that the more balanced supporters can out shout those who have chosen to pick on Danny Whittaker.
I’d be the first to admit that Danny has not had a good season. He is not on his own. Many of our players have not had a good season.
During yesterday’s game I felt really sorry for Danny. Every time he got the ball, there was a minority of so called fans swearing and barracking him. It was clearly affecting him and so benefiting the opposition. It’s worth saying that again – barracking our own players benefits the opposition!!
Danny had a great season for us last season. His goals gave us a lot to remember.
Give the guy a break and get behind him. At his best, Danny is a dam good offensive player. Strong distribution, a good passer and as good a player as we have in terms of shooting from distance. Danny IS NOT a tackler and he’s is never going to be…so don’t expect that from him.
Just like Jack Lester being pretty c**p in the air. Neil Trotman having no pace. Mark Allot being virtually immune to shooting. Young Jordan Bowery being poor when he goes through one on one etc., etc. We are in Division 1 and we are bound to have players that have a deficiency or who are inconsistent.
The worst part in seeing players barracked is when they are of good character. Danny is a thoroughly nice guy. He stayed on the pitch longer than any player when we won Division 2 – having his picture taking with the kids, signing autographs and giving everyone that wanted it his time.
I hope Danny scores a few vital goals for us and maybe even the winner at Wembley.
