I thought that before I tried the place last year, when it was the only supermarket nearby, but most of their stuff is made on the same production lines in the same factories as the branded products. The meat there admittedly isn't as good as a butcher's, but is pretty much on a par with other supermarkets, and a lot cheaper.
My mum is in fact the biggest food snob ever, but once we got her shopping there she loves it, so if she can be converted I'm sure you can too.

Good on you :) Sure I could still teach you a thing or two about combining discounts and coupons and pricing glitches though! :D

lidl ol penny pincher me ha ha ha lol
God I hate this league.

I spend no more than about 30 mins getting together my discounts for a weekly shop...
I list on ebay maybe once a month, which takes an hour or so. I do work as well, over Christmas I spent most weekends working 3pm-3am, back at 7am to midday, then back again 3pm-3am and so on... And I still found time to save/make money during that period, I don't think I had a day off for a month during peak season. So thanks for the jibe about how much I work, but I work damn hard.

And as for your last point, I know I don't know everyone's situation, that's why I invited people to tell me, being very good with money is one of the only talents I have, so I know I can probably advise at least 99% of people on how they can save extra money. I just did my weekly shop, at waitrose, for under £15, I can do it at Aldi and eat 3 meals a day, different meals, for a week, for about £8. I understand people all read things differently, that's why I've tried to make it clear what I mean in my posts, but obviously some have chosen to ignore that and take it all the wrong way.

I will give you some advice. Don't go to Waitrose you will save 7 quid a week if you go to Aldi

If I go to Aldi though, it's £3.60 return on the bus with a 20 minute walk as well, or a 70 minute round trip by foot, haven't got time for that this week because of lectures...
Waitrose did provide me with a nice piece of lamb that'll do 3 or 4 meals for about £2 though ;) Stores tend to reduce their items at 11am, then again at 3pm then anything not sold by an hour before closing time usually gets put down to about 10p, that's how the Waitrose I live above do it, and also how the Co-op, Tesco's and some Sainsbury's do it, not tried M's or Asda yet, but would guess they're pretty much the same! So always best to shop at those times if it's possible. Also, people might point out it's 'out of date' but if you freeze it on day or purchase then use it whenever needed, its pretty much always as good as fresh with a long shelf life :)

Great I will ask work if I can pop out of work at 11 am or 3 pm oh in fact no I won't because I already know the answer, 1 more point don't people with kids usually fetch their kids from school around that time ? I wonder if they could leave them with the school for half hour while they go save 3 quid to go towards the wembley fund. Or at closing time they could leave the kid on its own and nip down to the shop to pick up a bargain or get a baby sitter for £5 an hour while they go for a hour to save £3, sorry for being picky but as you can see its not always possible.

That's why I said IF IT'S POSSIBLE, as I'm fully aware it isn't always! Wish people would read what I put before trying to argue
And there are such things as weekends.... in fact sundays are usually the best days for the reduced sections ;)

38p a meal? a strong hint of bs here me thinks.

It's not an argument its a debate !!! So now you are taking the 2 days off the family that they have together after the adults working a 50 hour week together to do something constructive and now they are off shopping. "Sorry son you can't go to play football as we are off to aldi"

Haha, wow, well, I've just said the best times to shop, there's no need to be so obstructive. 11am, 3pm and 9pm on either a weekday or weekend should be doable for more or less everyone. I know when I was younger and had 2 working parents along with a host of extra curriculars, shopping at at least one of those times would have been possible.
Can't actually get over how many excuses people are trying to throw up as to why they can't save money, most of them very petty, and there's not one I've not managed to suggest a way around.... yet you're all still going  You say it's not an argument, but the number of people on here so far who've tried to make personal comments about me, when they have no idea about me, is pretty prejudice and does make it feel like an argument.
The general feeling from most of these posts is: OH MY GOD HOW DARE THIS PERSON SUGGEST IT MIGHT BE POSSIBLE TO SAVE £40 BETWEEN NOW AND THE END OF MARCH?! I'M SO OFFENDED I'M GOING TO TRY AND INSULT HER, ESPECIALLY NOW SHE'S DARED OFFER VALID ADVICE!

If you have not got £40 in the first place to spend on food how do you save £40, and I have not mentioned anything personal but now you mention it how about you get back down out your bubble an accept the fact that these obstacles that are being put in place are actually real life obstacles that people have to deal with week in week out. And someone showing the arrogance you have suggesting that if they can't afford the £40 in the first place then they shouldn't be going is a little stupid don't you think ?

38p a meal? a strong hint of bs here me thinks.

Box of cereal costs me £1 and lasts 2 weeks, long life milk to go with it is about 75p that's breakfast...
Lunch I get a loaf of bread reduced (admittedly usually from tesco not Aldi) for about 30p, and freeze to take out when I want. Butter I usually pay about £1 for a couple of months worth, then make the filling from whatever meat I have leftover from tea the previous night.
Tea is usually meat of some kind and carbs. For example, tonight I'm having turkey and orange stirfry: Turkey cost about £1 because it's the cheaper pieces, this is fine for s tir fry though cause you can't really tell the difference, orange is fresh, from a bag which cost about 50p for I think 7, veg is a reduced stir fry mix I picked up yesterday for 10p at Waitrose, looks and smells fine therefore should be ok in the stir fry. Then leftover turkey will be split tomorrow, half between either a soup or slow cooked stew or casserole and the other half will go in my sandwich at lunch time along with some stuffing made from a 12p value packet mix (tastes the same as the expensive brands and has the same ingredients mostly) :) Noodles I've had in the cupboard for ages, can't remember where I got them or how much for, same with the herbs and spices I'll use.
Therefore I do believe that works out at less than 38p a meal :D I can type up more of my 'food days' if you still don't believe me?

That's why I suggested alternatives other than food... Lot of selective reading going on. What obstacles have I not suggested a way to get around though?! I'm not in a bubble at all, I'm very financially aware and just like you all I have bills to pay, unexpected expenses etc. Just because I don't have children doesn't mean I'm clueless, I have quite a few friends with children and remember how my family managed things when I was younger, I also have quite a few 'moneysaver' friends on various internet forums that share their ways of getting round problems like are being suggested.
If a family can afford the £250 or so to go to Wembley, but then do not have any more disposable income for over a month after that so cannot afford an 'unexpected' extra expense of £40, then you do have to question their motives. What if their was an extra expense occured such as a, just an example, a child needing new school uniform (if they've ruined it or something)? Then would it be a case of 'Sorry kid, we've spent all our money to go to a football match, you'll have to wear lost property'.
£250-£300 is a lot for a family day out and what I meant by my comment was that if a family can't spare the extra expense maybe the money for the whole day would be better spent elsewhere, that money could go a long way in other areas of life. That's my opinion and I know some people have gotten offended by it but I'm not going to apologise for having it.
Anyway, much as I would love to continue 'debating' with various people, university calls!
