Enjoyable day out. Lovely weather. Nice stadium and pleasant staff.
We were shocking first half. It felt like MK Dons all over again. Really sloppy and careless defending and no one playing well. The shame is we started the half really well and looked good for the first five minutes.
Both goals were poor ones to concede. We were giving then too much space and respect and when we got the ball it was like a hot potato.
Second half we were completely different. We enjoyed the lions share of possession and had what looked to me like a definite handball turned down for a penalty. This lead to JS being sent off.
Whittaker side footed at the keeper when he should have scored.
Clarke wanted to take the penalty that he won. Talbot had to step in and give Whitts the nod.
Whits dispatched pen with aplomb.
Felt we were going to go on and grab the equaliser. Instead more sloppy defending and they score with a back post header.
Felt we deserved a draw on our second half showing.

Difficult to pick a MOM. I would probably just give the nod to Westcarr because he worked really hard.

Smith made a couple of really bad mistakes. Ford looked vulnerable and nervous first half.
Fleming seems like a good shot stopper and he kicks pretty good but he doesn't breed confidence from crosses and corners.
Felt Johnson was a little off colour - especially in first half. A few really loose passes.
Mendy looked good but we did not get the ball to him anywhere near enough.
Clarke worked hard

Summary
Whilst there was no real stand out players for us today, our team play in second half was good and we looked a good side.
We made our own problems in the first half.
I reckon they would have been pretty relieved when the third goal went in.
Feel we need a sergeant major style captain to marshall us. We need to be harder and more no nonsense at times
Saturday in London would be more fun if we had nicked a point.
We did not disgrace ourselves.
Great to play in front of a big crowd

Thanks for the report. I'd agree re the type of player you say we still need. Would be great to get the young prem/champ striker.

Thanks for that.
How did Clarke react when he wasn't allowed to take the penalty?

Think Whitts should go to the Euro championship next year with England.

totally agree, but i'd give Mendy MOTM. worked very hard, always running, and was fairly physical (surprised me as he's very skinny. Westcarr tried, but Charlton have some top class CBs.

I didn't go but this pretty much sums up the report my mate gave me at the end of the game. However his condemnation of Smith was a little harsher than yours. However he did say we were probably the better side in the second half. The penalty we didn't get seems to have been pretty clar cut from what I can understand

I would have been inclined to swap Mendy for Westcarr, and play the frenchman behind Clarke in a 4-4-1-1.

Charlton will go up, they are a good side. I was pleased with our performance and we matched them on thier own ground for most of the 2nd half. Not many sides will go to the Valley and get points.
A new hope.

Westy's workrate was great and was unlucky to be taken off.Mendy looked dangerous when he ran at them down the centre. Good to see Morgn hungary for the ball, he would start on the left for me next week inssted of Whitts.
Ford settled down in the 2nd half but I'd bring in Holden as captain.

DRL, i think you been a bit harsh with regard to their third goal coming about through sloppy defending. We were pushing up for the equaliser as you quite rightly said, they won the ball and 4 passes later is it was on BWP's head, arriving at the back post. A cracking counter attacking move that wouldnt have looked out of place in the Prem.

If i had to sum up the game in one sentence, it would be this:

The best team over the 90 minutes won.

they were a good side - cant see them being in this division next year. we were impressive second half and really took the game to them, as for the handball, we were in row 3 and it happened right in front of us - blatant, blatant penalty. the linesman (who had a shocker) simply bottled it in front of their fans :angry

why would it, he didnt look offside on the replay on TV and there was no appeal from the lunging Talbot.

I was sat in the away end and it was impossible to tell if ANY of the offside decisions against either side were correct or not....

not "jumpin in when you post" particularly, its just that you post rubbish half the time!!

You say " the flag was up every time we attacked, but it was hardly up for them" then when challenged, you say "it was probably right" well, yes, there isn't a rule that says every 5th time you are allowed to play on.

And for what its worth, you say it went up "most times we attacked in the first half" but "only 2 occasions in the second half". Well, we only had 5 offside decisions against us all game, so by your reckoning that means it was only 3 times in the first half, hardly "most times" was it?

You need to take off those rose tinted glasses whilst your at games!!

i wouldn't call it blatant, no, his arms were flailing as he ludged to block the cross, its not as if he deliberately tried to block the ball.

It was comparable to one of the QPR shouts today and the 'experts' on MotD2 said that wasn't a penalty, and perennial Ref-Hater and QPR manager Neil Warnock agreed!

i thought, from where i was was, there were two arguable decisions, our penalty claim and when there player got booked for diving, i'd say they evened each other out. Although, you constantly fail to spot/comment on instances when officials wrongly rule in our favour!

Would anyone else like to register the fact just like Simon that the handball WAS NOT BLATANT,he said it not me and apart from the bald lino and referee and most in the vicinity thought it was you could even here the thankyou god from the home fans.

Wrongly rule in our favour,i will pass on that one.....i expect like every other fan that the laws of the game be applied fairly,i don't think he dared not to wave play on with the penalty he actually gave us,but i bet it crossed his mind for a split second he hadn't got the bald lino to help him out this time had he.........
