Well spotted. A literate footballer with a sense of humour and not afraid to laugh at himself. Don't know how that'll go down in the dressing room, but interesting times ahead for JS, I think.
I'm a happy bunny now.

Can't believe you thought that was written by Leon Clarke!

Good luck with Clarke. Whether Chesterfield are the club to get the best out of him let's wait and see. Hopefully he's had time to reflect on last week's events and will now show some professionalism.

Some other articles we at TheWashbag.com have published on Clarke

A somewhat positive view when he signed - http://thewashbag.co...s-new-number-9/

A reflection on Di Canio's mistakes at signing Clarke - http://thewashbag.co...nd-bad-signing/

Clarke set for Chesterfield switch

LEON Clarke is set to move out on loan to League One Chesterfield later this week, the Advertiser understands.

Paolo Di Canio only brought the former QPR striker to Town on a two-year deal towards the end of last month.

But after his altercation with the Town boss following the Carling Cup defeat to Southampton, Di Canio said Clarke would never play for the club again.

There was interest in Clarke from clubs in both League Two and One.

quality signing.

Di canio has said he will NEVER pick him again, well hopefully he'll come here score/create some goal and prove a point then come january he's our permanantly.

the goals will come now, just still could do with just 1 more striker.

Its possible he will change his mind if Clarke scores regularly for us and Swindon struggle to find the net. I am pleased we are signing him.

before eric cantona came to england nobody in england had heard of him.cantona was opinionated there is a massive difference, clarke will really need to knuckle down to win me over, nevertheless i only have to watch him not go drinking with him.

Opinionated? Marseille got rid of him for smashing his boots in his own goalkeepers face!

I just about agree with that line up rob, however I'm unsure if Mattis will be fit.

Question - would you bring another striker in now for 1 month, then another one in a months time for 3 months, or would you wait a couple of weeks then sign one?

I'd go with the second option, and have mendy on the right, Morgan left, westcarr and Clarke up top.

I would put Holden in for Ford. Or Mattis if he is fit.

Put simply. Yes! Just because he may of been disruptive elsewhere, does'nt mean he will be here. This is the signing 90% of this board has been calling out for. Gamble? Yes. Bold or stupid? Only time will tell, but certainly worth the risk.

He has to start with a clean slate here, not have "baggage" held against him. What about Lee Hughes and Gary Madine? They were worth a gamble obviously. Good players, especially proven scorers, are hard to find, so bring it on, Leon Clarke.

He's a Sheridan old boy, he'll sign.

He is the Davies replacement we needed; arguably, we now have a stronger forward line than we had last season; now i'm happy.

Mendy, Morgan, Clarke, Westcarr; that, on paper, should cause any defence problems.

.................Lee.................

Talbot.....Holden.....Grounds....Smith

Westcarr.....Mattis..Johnson....Morgan

...........Mendy......Clarke..........

I'll take that line up most days of the week.

Thats a pretty decent side - on paper
A new hope.

Quite right. When Shane Nicholson first joined us, he was football's answer to Pete Doherty. As long as a player confronts the idea that he's running out of last chances and knuckles down, he should start with a clean slate.

Why?what did ford do wrong? People are going to find holden is a squad player this season. I like holden, did a great job for us last season. Trouble is,he is not as quick as he prob used to be. While ever grounds is here, and ford is fit, holden will be on the bench. Is that fair? Maybe, maybe not,but thats football.

This is breaking news on the DT website:

Sources close to Chesterfield Town Football Club have revealed that the squad could be strengthened in time for the south coast clash against Bournemouth.

Manager John Sheridan, moving swiftly following Jack Lester’s injury on Saturday, is rumoured to be on the verge of securing the services of Swindon striker Leon Clarke on loan.

Absolutely useless!

Nice that they are living up to their usual standard of coverage by getting our team name wrong !

If he ever repeats his celebration that he did when netting for Wednesday against Palace, the repairers of broken toes and damaged advertising hoardings might be cheering quite loudly, too!

And so was Jamie Burt IIRC. (but neither of them in Paul Merson's league! Even Amy Winehouse was chaste and clean compared to him apparently)

Gosh, yes. That shows that while the club can do the right things to help a guy get his career back on track, the player still has to want to do it. I think JB just didn't like the work, in the end, and was happier being the pub player he very quickly became. What a waste. First time I saw him I thought we'd found another Malcolm MacDonald.
