Remember the day after as well.

About a dozen of us went to the Silver Blades ice rink and we ended up legging it all the way back to the railway station when the dee-dahs somehow realised where we were from.

Happy days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Definitely East Mid it was late 70s before they started running from Mason's Dave.

As a previous poster suggested I think it was on fourth round day ...

Both teams out of Cup

IIRC the year later .... Town entertained the other , far more "likeable team " (IMHO) from Sheffield in a friendly at Saltergate

Seem to remember Town won that one as well ...2-1 IIRC

Brian Joicey scored early for Wednesday

THINK it was Peter Mellor's debut in goal for Town ....the man who came on loan from Burnley in the Alan Stevenson deal

This would give a little substance to the "out of Cup in 3rd round theory " as I strongly suspect Stevo's last game for Town was in the 3rd round Cup exit at Stoke ?

That really wasnt worth saying twice though but

Dislike both DeeDah clubs as much as I do. I must admit if I had to choose a more likeable one I'd go for the blunts. In no way IMO are the bowels preferable, with their better than everyone, big club attitude. I couldn't have a conversation with a bowel without wanting to gag em. United fans are much more bearable.

Villa gave us a thrashing at Saltergate, Rodney Fern was scoring for fun. Andy Lockhead sorry.

Hmm... Throwing myself off Curbar Edge, or having a nice hot bath with a two-bar electric fire...?

Actually, I prefer United. They were supportive of Chesterfield Town's entry to the league in 1899, and Wednesday were rather more obstructive. That's enough, for me.

Could someone please pass Stues comments on to the Derbyshire times and also emphasise the date as 1899

Agreed.

I have had the misfortune to go to Bramall Lane a few times with the father-in-law, who is a Blade. Anyone who thinks that Town fans are fickle moaners should spend one day in S2 (but no more than that). Pick any seat in the ground and it is still like sitting next to Neil Warnock.

I thought it was over 48000. They were presented with the Div 3 Trophy and won 1-0. Ross (?) the ex Liverpool player chipped Tingay who had a great game. Played on a Friday night.
We drew 0-0 the season before.
