Blue, at the top the thread on the right hand side there are 3 options of how to view the thread "OUTLINE" "STANDARD" and "LINEAR".
"STANDARD" is the normal view, you may have accidentally clicked on one of the other views which is why things looked odd.

firefox display is supposed to look similar to explorer, on any web page you look at.... erm, i'm still not sure what problem you're having.... other than "somethings different"'
