I went to Liverpool last Wednesday for the day, £4 each way direct from town and back, go to Liverpool, enjoy their excellent pubs, hop on the ferry or get a bus over to Tranmere.

I've got it for £13.90 including the train from L'pool Lime St. to Rock Ferry but I've got a 16-25 railcard which takes around third off the price.

£15 quid return, £9 going out there at anytime and £5 coming back on 19.52 train. Cheap as anything that, much better than the buses. Looking forward to a full day in Liverpool before a short train ride across to Birkenhead.

Which station is nearest the ground? Birkenhead Central at a guess?!

The nearest station is Rock Ferry, it's a 15-20 walk to the ground.

If return trains are an issue all I can offer is to take 4 back to Wakefield to catch a train there - good service to Chesterfield (40 minutes).

Booked via E.Mids trains yesterday, Town-Liverpool £12 return. Will sort out travel onto the ground when up there as there's several options.

There's also service and match day buses run from Liverpool, Birkenhead and local mersey rail stations.

Will the prices increase as demand increases, or is it because your booking early.

There's only a limited number of the cheaper tickets for each train, when they go then obviously the price goes up.
