He played and scored against us in the 1-1 draw at Stockport last season. Thats the only time i've seen him and he looked decent enough. Hard to tell from one game though.

Been mentioned in a few reports that we are :-

"But Turnbull earned plenty of plaudits for his performances for the struggling side, and despite being offered a one-year extension to his stay at Edgeley Park, he is understood to have offers from elsewhere, including last year’s league From two champions Chesterfield."

Paul Turnbull (Stockport) and Kyle Bennett (Bury) are also players Chesterfield are believed to covet.

Kyle Bennett looked a good player against us. Would be an interesting signing

You must more than any scout we have and half the mangers around, JS included, Paul Turnbull was one of the players he was interested in. According to Club Officials.
but I guess you have watched over a number of games.

I'm going by the opinions of fans who watch him week in, week out, by all means another Derek Niven which isn't what we need.

Don't you think being on the door step of JS whilst at Oldham our manager will be fully aware of his value - if it's between yours and JS value, I think I'll go with..................
Have a look at the Stockport video on Player Josh.

I don't judge players on one game anymore, I learnt my lesson with Martin Gritton.
And Dave I don't see how you can champion Paul Turnbull as a good signing and then say Jimmy Ryan wouldn't be good enough for us.
If he did join I wouldn't have a problem but I honestly don't see why we need another Niven.

I'm not championing him.
How do you know 'he's another Niven' Good enough to stick one past out static defence at Edgley Park, a scoring midfielder RPL.

Scored 7 goals in 129 appearences for Stockport. Gritton scored two or three against us at Saltergate, just because someone has a stormer against us doesn't mean anything.
Comment from a Stockport fan (the only one I could find on TFF, I'm sure there are more positive ones somewhere) -
Quote
Does a lot of running, but not much else. Also fulfils his captain role by superbly clapping his hands a lot during the game, which he seems to think constitutes leading the team. He used to be a bit of a teen tearaway too, but not heard about him being in court since he was 17, so seems to have calmed down a bit.
In reality, he'll put a lot of effort in, but he's really not a very good footballer. I'd keep Tansey every day of the week over him, but unfortunately, it doesn't look like that will be happening either.
He's 22 though, so we will require a fee as he's been offered a contract. Reputation rules ability on these things, so I think £30K will do it, although I'd personally let you have him for £30.

not another Niven. Very similar to Stephen Dawson, the all action ex-stag who everyone said couldn't pass, but who relatively speaking went on to greater things.
