He may have liked a pint, but who dont, yes he took drugs and made a mistake. But for anyone to question his footballing ability is crazy...........

2 - Premiership Titles

FA Cup Winner

League Cup Winner

Cup Winners Cup Winner

Charity Shield Winner

Played in a Super Cup Final

Scored over 100 top flight Goals

21 England Caps

Quite simply he offended all CFC fans with his comment and I for one have a long memory. As I said earlier - good footballer or not we should all boycott this. Unfortunately you seem to want to line his pockets though. If somebody slagged me off I certainly wouldnt want to give them £40 odd quid for it.

The man was a brilliant footballer, can't argue with that.

However, anyone paying good money to go listen to this wretch "entertain" with his stories want their heads looking at.

He epitomises what football snobbery is about. He can stick his after dinner speech where the sun doesn't shine. I remember his quote very well and its always stuck in my throat to the point if I see him on tele I turn over. Lowest point my eye, like someone said earlier, what about when he was sat blubbering in front of the cameras because he has no self discipline.

The man is a wretch, I would save your money.

I cant find a link - but I think it was after a home win against Walsall. Merson stated 'it's the lowest point of my career' and when asked what he meant he replied something along the lines of 'well look around'. That's how I remember anyway. At the time I thought what an absolute t##t - who does he think he is.

People say things in the spare of the moment,

And to be honest a lot of Town fans now say god, glad we got away from that Shed, and the increase in attendance proves one thing, that most town fans would not go cause it was Saltergate, and now we have a nice ground they go.

In his Opionion it sounds like it was the Worse ground he played at, and thats his Opioion.

I love Saltergate, but wont hold it against him if he did not rate the place

Correct, he was player/manager at the time and was completely shown up on the pitch (and the fans let him know it!).

I'll quote another pearl of wisdom that the ex-England player announced fresh from a 2-2 draw at Saltergate in Jan 2006.

"You know what you are going to get here. They had the hump with me when I called them Wimbledon, but I don't think Petrocelli could get them out of this one. They got the ball forward, I don't think they got the ball through midfield once they lumped it up and it was a battle. We're disappointed we've drawn, with our away record we should be doing carthorses"

ooh err missus indeed....

Petrocelli incidentally, was a lawyer who always appeared to be around when a murder happened, bit like Jessica Fletcher.

I always felt that Paul Merson knew more about Pinot Grigio than Petrocelli, personally.

Merson is a to22er, a shandy drinker and a gob sheet.

Good footballer or not I wont pay to watch him speak while ever I have a hole in my bottom.

I support SPIRE 68's boycott even more so because of his picture of Tony Harrison. You know nothing of the crunch!

I think a few comments on here about Merson are a bit over the top. Here you have a bloke that as a footballer was a genius, and on his day couldn't be touched. Of course he had his problems but so do lots of people (Shinner for example).

If you had the pedigree that he had as a footballer and having played in some of the best stadiums in the world, with 10 times the average gate we had at Saltergate and you subsequently end up plying your trade in the lower divisions, then of course you are going to be on a downer and when it goes wrong you are likely to make comment, especially if little Chesterfield beat you and when you get into the changing rooms you can't have a shower because there isn't any hot water

So what if he did indeed say what he did, it doesn't alter the price of fish, I loved the old place but wouldn't take it to heart if someone complained about it, a bit playground for me.

Went to see Paul Merson recently at the Fox & Goose, found him to be a very entertaining speaker who was totally honest about the mess he'd made of his life and all the money he'd gambled away (he even lost his entire footy pension in a few days). He made fun of himself and was very amusing, I personally had a good night out.

I'd rather go on a pub crawl with him than pay to listen to him.

can forgive any Merson comment.... we got our own back by pretty much ending his playing and managing career with the 3-2 comeback win at the Bescot.
