Probably from the mysterious 'Them or They'.

They and Them are famous for starting a whole host of stories and rumours, they always have something to say do them.
"one day, we shall return" (edit - and so we did).

Just talking to the Area Manager for Beer & Co Group, They have several Pubs in and around Derby, Burton and Chesterfield and the Police in Burton have recomended that all pubs within a certain distance of the ground to close until after 5pm.

They are not pleased about it and are seeking legal advice.

If it's a recommendation can it be legally enforced?

Probably not but i suspect the coppers could make life difficult for any landlord who went against the recommendation.

Seem to remember a home game v Mansfield where a lot of pubs were shut.

no. if they order any pub to shut theyd be liable to pay compensation to the landlords thats why its only a recommendation.

What the police could do is stop away fans from going into pubs around the ground. In the LA Fontaine on Saturday I was most amused to see about 30 coppers pitch up outside in vans, cars, dog vans, on motorbikes and bicycles (I kid you not). Afterwards they wouldn't let anyone back into the pub but were getting them onto the buses. I did think it a bit OTT, especially the filming of us all, entering, during and leaving the ground. Causes more aggro than it puts off. I hope the staffs coppers are a bit more sensible.

Obviously not otherwise they wouldn't be advising the pubs not to open! Aholes

Imagine a few hundred town fans milling about Burton from Midday to kick off with no boozers open.... really sensible.... not.
