Never mind what young Englishmen want. They're supposed to be world class athletes taking part in the most prestigious football tournament on the planet. Can't they just knuckle down for all of 4 weeks?

For me I think they’ve seized on the few stories doubting the manager’s selections (despite being largely consistent with those that got us there in the first place) and are now trying to worm their way out of their own uselessness.
Is it Capello’s fault that Rooney failed to even control the ball? That Lampard could barely find his man? That Gerrard and Heskey were so afraid to shoot? That Glen Johnson could barely run? Not really
If Fabio ends up resigning on Thursday morning and the press hound him away and that useless lot continue playing then they and us will just be kidding ourselves.

I was right behind Fabio instilling some discipline, getting rid of the WAGs etc etc. And, it probably works OK when the squad are together for three or four days but for weeks on end (in a pressure situation) it's unrealistic. Not that they should be let loose on the unsuspecting public of SA, but some leisure/unwinding in moderation can't hurt, can it?
It's naive to think that a few pints is going to solve the obvious problems exposed on Friday night, but some element of freedom of expression off the pitch could help them look less terrified on the pitch.
Anyway, people can debate the formation and the tactics all they like - but several of the England players on Friday couldn't control the ball (woeful first touch) or make a simple pass to a team mate - very little to do with the Coach.

its not just 4 weeks though is it,its more like 6 with training, try living in an enviroment when all you can do is eat and train,it would get boring,a happy working enviroment is vital whether you are on 100k a week or £200 ,capello can employ all the best dieticians sports scientists coaches etc,but if you cannot work out what makes individuals tick then it is a waste of time, bring back the beers card games and custard pies if you ask me,no one is asking them to get drunk just relax...they havent become one of the worst teams in the world overnight

When Capello took over, the senior players were quick to praise the Mangers strict code of conduct, commenting on how he banned mobiles from meetings, meal times etc, how a manager who has won everything that could be won at club level and was a leader they could genuinely respect and admire, now when the going gets tough and the spotlight turns on them they will look at every possible avenue to divert blame away from themselves.
How anybody can blame Capello's regime for the players not being able to control the ball, not closing down players and lacking the desire to win the ball back beggers belief.
Now I do not think the manager is blameless, by not picking a genuine left footed player to play on the wing, picking Heskey along with ignoring the fact that Lampard is blameless and shoving Gerrard(our best player against USA) back out to the wilderness that is the left is very very baffiling.
Players used to complain that with Sven HE WAS NOT TOUGH ENOUGH, there just were no real boundries and players took the urine as for a huge percentage of the team they were shoo-inns regardless of fitness and form.
This regime gave us the best performance in World Cup Qualifiying history. The manager has to take some responsibility for the performances in this tournament, but the failure to carry out the fundimental basics that England portrayed against Algeria lays at the door of the players and the players alone!

i agree i just think that players have to relax they have to have as normal a time as they do in their home lives(i dont mean nightclubs and birds),what is the point in being in bed at 11,they are grown men,not everyone needs 8 hours kip,as for sven well he is the greatest illusionist in the world,he has managed to fool people including our bumbling fa into believing he has talent, yet he is a complete *******,the mexicans are proof of his lack of ability

Thought the problem was the 8 hours between lunch and evening mean. They don't know how to occupy their time "only so much darst, snooker and pool before it gets boring"
How about reading a book! no forget that, how about more training, today it is "ball control"

I bet the men in places like camp bastion manage to concentrate and work hard for 90 mins every 3 or 4 days.

You're probably right...none of them made the final squad of 23 though, so the relevance of the point is lost on me. We all know that footballers (especially the multi-millionaire variety) would struggle to do an 'honest days work' - as we understand it. The England players job - in terms of expectation - is high pressure, no question. I don't know anyone else who 'goes to work' and has there every move analysed and criticised by thousands of experts.

I would think being shot and killed is just as high pressure as being scrutinsed and criticised by thousands of experts. My point being that others `cope` with high pressure jobs in high pressure environments locked away from the world in boring self contained `unrealistic` locked away `camps`.And still manage to perform thier jobs and duties.

yep, you're absolutely right, its all the Managers fault and anyone else connected with the set up - the players are 100% faultless and should get plaudits for the effort and commitment they put in against Algeria. I'm thinking of selling my house and car and sending the proceeds to the team for the pleasure they gave me and my fellow punters last Friday night
these latest comments from Terry and the other prima donnas, who think they are bigger than the game, are seriously making me think whether to finish early tomorrow

Nor is it anything to do with the FA or the England set up
Its their clubs that pay their wages.
Ok they get an appearance fee (few grand??) but the only way they will get anything like the kind of money they are on 'back home' is to progress in the tournament.
I guess its feasible (albeit very unlikely) for a player from Div 2, on £1,000 a week to be selected for England.
