Explaining that he had approached the referee about the foul that led to a penallty, and a dismissal for Steele, because he thought there hadn't been contact, "the referee tells me the law is a trip or an attempt to trip- which is news to me!"

Mark it has been in Law 12 for more than a century (although nit was originally Law 10 in 1863.)

I remember this explaining the award of a Steven Gerrard penalty at Bramall lane

Yes and the attempt to trip is always so much easier to identify when it is the bigger club appealing. Such is life, it stinks.

One call reminded me why I don't miss listening to that stuff. A Barnsley fan called to say his side had been rubbish.

"Did you go?"

"No, but I listened to Radio Sheffield. Well, I listened to the Sheffield United game on Radio Sheffield, because I can't get FM where I live and I haven't got a DAB radio."
