Whilst having a few beers in Kelham Island (deedahland) last night there was also a group of rotherscum supporters doing the same "crawl" and they were discussing {they didn't know me from any other deranged deedah] what was apparently a well founded rumour that rufc were about to explore the possibility of hiring Saltergate next season and moving from the dva whilst their new super stadium is built. Could this be done with all the EOE plans, will our last game be as visitors, would we have to stand on the Crooss Street while they have the kop, and if the seat I've bought has been used by an bottom from rotherscum I want my money back [you don't no were it's been, the bottom that is] They may dangle a big carrot to keep Saltergate open another year but would we get paid.
It's only a rumour but they had conviction and weren't pi8888d

I'd sooner they let Worksop use it until it has to come down.

The very notion of anybody using after we have said our goodbyes is an awful thought....
The idea of returning as a visiting fan fills with me dread...

I doubt the football league would sanction it given the distance from Rotherham. A better option would be groundsharing Hillsborough, which could be a goer as the Owls are desperate for cash.

Could always do an MK. Two teams in Chesterfield, Chesterfield and a lower team Chesterfield United.

I reckon this is a total non-starter - but if the million to one chance of it becoming reality actually happened, wouldn't it be the ultimate humiliation for RUFC?

Imagine it: they'd be paying Chesterfield FC to play in a clapped out old stadium, travelling twenty odd miles every home game in the process, whilst we'd be sitting proudly in our brand new ground. And if we were watching League One football whilst they were forced to make do with League Two fare - preferably because we'd done them in the play offs - then lining the streets laughing as their fans trooped past would become an amusing option.

Nah, as i said there's no way it'll happen...but the fact miserable Millers are actually discussing it as an option shows just how desperate they're becoming!

Whichever development company is buying Saltergate - presumably the deal is done and we get the money when we move out - I can't see them letting four million quids worth of prime development land stand idle for a whole year, which is basically what it would be doing.
Unless they think that houses built in a eighteen months time will be worth a lot more than houses built in six months, of course.
That's really scary.

i'm sure it's a non starter as the fixtures and fittings are already earmarked for other uses - for example the floodlights are apparently on their way to Ilkeston.

This hasn't all sprung from a joke I made on here has it? Not sure what thread it was now, but the thread was talking about how poor the DVS was & I made a joke that I knew about a stadium coming available from June next year available for rent.

I was only joking tho!!

PS Clarevoyant - I got your pm mate no worries! BTW, Wingerworth doesn't mean owt to me, so I think you are mixing me up with someone else (but if she is young n good looking I don't mind :D)
Don't worry what people think, they don't do it very often.

really can`t see this happening, how much of the old girl will be left after the last game and forth coming auction off, also rufc would obviously have to play at home when we played away, which would still be a little tricky for rotherscum fans coming into town, don`t think they'd be very welcome etc
all we are saying, is give us ...a goal, or 2+

Interesting rumour.

Assuming the ground has been sold, would it be in the developers interests to put any build on hold until the economic situation has recovered further, considering the bank of england/treasury will soon stop the QE and tighten belts?

Rent on the ground (Bradford rumoured to be paying over £300k, millers used to pay similar for millmoor and mans failed reputed to be paying £200k for feel ill) its not a bad return for 12 months delay on building.
A new hope.

And all for a ground with next to no commercial facilities.

By the way, going off at a tangent i'm told our little yellow neighbours have agreed a further ten year lease for Field Mill. Sir Keith will be rubbing his hands together, and what happened to all the talk of moving to a new stadium when the current Board took over?

They'll have to supply some new lights, and what about the auction - can't see it, too far out of rotherham.
