id only ever play 3 at the back with downes, plus if you play 3 at the back you need wingbacks which gray and goodhall are not,so it cannot happen,as for hall i dont rate him at all, with the players we have at present the team picks its self unfortunately, same back 4,rundle and whaley wide and nivo and allott in the middle with baz and drew up top,we need a couple of loan signings

Conlon offers a focal point that holds the ball up and wins the headers.Half the issue with Gritton and fans not rating him is the belief that he is a target man when he clearly isnt and is a different player to Conlon.

i can understand that, and i know how much of a target man conlon is compared to gritton. however, after watching conlon at the weekend against the shots i would just be tempted to give gritton a try. i can only comment on the last few home games but the last few games i have seen conlon play he didnt seem to be winning many balls, especially on saturday. the games i have seen gritton in this season he was winning much more in the air and seems to have massively improved his ability to hold the ball up and bring others into play, which could work to our benefit if we pair him with someone like small or talbot. in the home game when JS started conlon and gritton as a pairing, (i forget the team we played) gritton IMO seemed the far better player. but i guess thats why i am sat here and JS is the manager

Being fair to Conlon on Saturday a much better target man than him would have done very little as well considering the service he got. Majority of the time the ball was no where near him but on the few occasions it was he won it and brought others into it.
I also find it strange that someone who a lot of fans wanted out in the summer is now the player that everyone wants in as if its some kind of stick to beat Sheridan with.
Its like the ones whining on Radio Sheff last night that kept rattling on about Green when they couldnt even get the formation used on Saturday right!!

They should be low and confidence and if we get the first goal it should be reasonably comfortable.
A win will really set up the midweek game at Notts.

mate i completely understand where you are coming from. i was a bit frustrated that Green started ahead on niven on saturday but IMO JS knows better than me or i would the manager not him

Agreed 3 pts is a must but lets not forget we only just got out of jail against Darlo so we musnt take anything for granted and think we should win by just turning up.Cheltenham are fighting for their league lives so wont just roll over

I expect the game at Cheltenham to be a scrappy affair similar to Morcambe it won't be an easy game but one I think we can win. However, I would expect the players and manager to be up for the game at Notts County and it should be rather entertaining and if we can put in a decent performance there is no reason why we cant come away with a point or 3!!!

In my hu.mble opinion, Conlon led the line at Crewe as good as anyone has in the past decade. Can't remember anyone playing the hold up role and bringing others into play better than that

What recent form, if it wasn't for TOMMY we'd be out of play offs.

What an odd comment, Tommy Lee IS part of the team you know and therefore contributes to the said form.

I wasn't at the Crewe game, so can't comment, but it seems blindingly obvious to me that Conlon is massively more effective than Gritton. I have never slated any of our players, and feel Gritton does his best when he plays, but when I've seen Conlon he has been far better both in the air and on the ground at getting to the ball, and far more effective at using the ball to feed others. In my opinion, he should definitely start at Cheltenham, and so should Derek.
