Just got back myself,i hope Downsey's injury isn't too bad just hope they took him off as a precaution....

Lady luck was on our side again plus some awful shooting by Vale, but we scored two goals first half to give us a chance of the win and we had to defend for the long periods aided by us giving the ball back to them time after time which was infuriating,i think that was my first win at Vale Park......

Played some good stuff on the break in the first half and last 15 mins..A little like the Alamo for about 20 mins after they scored but, for a change, the longer the game went on the less likely they looked like scoring.
Good move by Sherridan to revert to 4-4-2 after the goal gave them a new lease..one thing, to the old couple behind me how did we win tonight because according to you....
Page was S4IT,
Brechin was S4IT,
Goodhall was S4IT,
Allot was S4IT,
Gray was S4IT,
Green was S4IT,
Conlon was S4IT and
Small was, wait for it,....S4IT

Well guess it takes all sorts!!

Bit unfair Warfey..I thought he did nothing wrong when he came on, but due to the 3-5-2 formation causing us to be overrun in midfield with Vale mounting pressure, it was logical to revert to a 4-4-2 line up, due to both Page and Brechin playing well the obvious choice was Austin..not nice for the bloke I know, but surely due more to allow Niven on the pitch than get Austin off.!!

But if you didn't go you've probably got a few less grey hairs. We were hanging on big-time for a while, though after Tommy's injury we seemed to calm down a bit and start playing our way out of trouble again. The last 10 minutes we seemed a lot more comfortable.
Mark Allott was in different class to everybody else on the park, again. But I'm a bit worried that Green has been signed on a must-play basis - he scored again with the help of a big deflection but he shouldn't have been left on when it came down to scrapping for it - he didn't seem to have any idea where to go, who to mark or what day it was, and provided neither an outlet from defence nor defensive cover on our right flank, where they got absolutely acres of space. Rundle on the other side knew exactly what to do. Why Niven didn't come on to replace Green, who was generally wandering round the middle of the park anyway, is a total mystery to me.
Downes was holding the defence together when he got injured - I really couldn't see how we were going to hold out in the second half without him, but with a bit of luck and Tommy Lee we managed it. Danny Hall on the bench would have made life a lot easier. If Downes has another long-term injury we're in the doo-doo.

Yes , have to agree there H, he looked completely lost and way, way out of his depth for virtually the whole second half!!

Trying to be fair to him, it was no place for young kids out there - but the end result was that we were virtually a man short.
I just hope it isn't the case that we're committed to playing him every game. Definitely a luxury item.

Tonight was his last game so that should be a problem unless Sheriden extends his stay (which he eas talking about)

Talbot back on the right wing on Saturday would suit just fine. Failing that, put Small out there and play Gritton. We need some experienced heads out there now we're coming to the crunch.

Another good battling performance with the defence abley marshalled by my motm Breckin. I hope Downes is okay and did Tommy dislocate a finger? Good to see Tommy making some great and brave saves in the first half. Well done to young Green who still looks raw but is improving steadily. What a class act Rundle is especiaaly with somecracking passes in the 1st half.Good to see Small looking sharp in the 1st half and that was agood and correct decision to take off Austin he was well out of his depth and if he had stopped on until the end then may have lost the game.
This was a very good result against a vale side who are no mugs.

I think my MOTM is going to Tommy Lee,i agree with you about Rundle i am taking to him already and i reckon he is on his way to earning another contract at the end of the season.

And another very good game from Allott, keep it up,we are grinding some good results out.....

So the 3 good chances the winger made by going passed him didn't warrant taking off and don't forget they scored from one of them. Just wondered.

Sorry to keep harping on about it, but Green was awful. He just had no idea at all where to put himself or what to do throughout the second half. No side can afford a midfielder who only shows in flashes and can take no part in defensive duties when we're under the cosh.
Compare the performance of Rundle on the other flank to show what I mean.
I don't want to be too hard on the young lad, and if he learns to add some kind of reading of the game to his talents he might make a decent player - but I'd much rather he learnt somewhere else. We can't afford the time.

Green scored but for the rest of the game didnt have a clue how to take a player on and just kept running into the opposing player
