Bestie played against us for Bournemouth in 1983 at Dean Court, don't think he's ever played at Saltergate though (I've got one over him on that one

I had the same thought - some kind of roll of honour.
I heard a rumour that Best made his reserve team debut at Saltergate but it might be a myth. There must be a mighty small list of great international footballers that have played here.
Banks, Forlan, Best, Hitzelsburger............................errrrrrrrrrr!

didn't he make his MU debut here? I seem to remember that the central league programme for the game is rather valuable.

I was thinking more along the lines of world renowned international players. So that's Best, Banks, Charlton..........

So, then - World Cup winners. competitive and friendly matches, at any level:
Banksie, of course;
Charlton for Man U youth team.
Stiles for Man U reserves (or Preston, 74-5?)
Ray Wilson (Huddersfield Reserves, or Oldham, 69-70.)
Alan Ball (Blackpool Reserves? Blackpool 80-81? Bristol Rovers 82-3?)
Hunt (Liverpool Res, or Bolton, 71-2?)
Martin Peters for sheff U in 80-81?
We only need to find a connection for Cohen, Jack Charlton, Hurst and Moore (although two of those have come as a manager...)
Did Laurent Blanc ever play for the French World Cup winners?
Was Ardlies in the Spurs side that played a friendly here in 85-6?
Did Malaga have anyone of note in their side?
Other top players in addition to those already listed: Who, who for, and in a competitive match or friendly?

I reckon I would have remembered if Ardiles played, I do remember it being Chris Waddles debut

I made the schoolboy error of asking the Southend manager in 1985 for his autograph......... during the game whilst his side were 2-0 down.. the second word was 'off'..... RIP Mr.Moore.
i got Ossie Ardiles autograph prior to that game.... but dont recall him turning out..
Larry White was suspended for the WC final wasnt he???

Thought so, but was having a bit of a "couldn't be bothered to google" moment about how many times they'd won it, or been in the final, during his career.
