Our defensive failings bring me to the conclusion that it is time for Mark to take over in goal. The lack of a commanding keeper to take the pressure off a bit during our defensive lapses means that it's his turn especially because of all our outfield limitations. More a collective critisism of the defence than solely Tommy, we need added height and strength in there.

So you are dropping someone who is doing their job pretty well recently to make up for people who have been struggling to play someone who i think you werent very happy with when he played in the opening game at Torquay?

Dave i tend to agree with your position in regard to Tommy Lee,Tommy seems to be going through a bad patch at the moment, from where i was stood on the Kop last night,he seemed to push two of their goals into the net,the third was an awful goal to conceed, although Tommy has played some blinders for us this season, his form of recent times has started to worry me.I would have played Crossley last night for the same reasons as you,but i am not convinced Crossley would be the regular number one.I don't know what Sheridan thinks,we need players urgent in other positions at the present time.
Do we require a keeper i would honestly have to say yes,but that is no harshness on Tommy Lee,but i do feel he needs to be dropped on present form.

Following the opening game of the season most people on here, including yourself i believe, were dismayed to see Crossley starting and said he wasnt up to it!!

have to agree Norm was poor at Torquay imo

Thought Tommy made a few good saves last night

The ones conceded Picks was pushed but perhaps Tommy should have dealt with the cross. Second FREE header from a corner saved then deflected back into net. Third a 3 or was it 4 men v 2 breakaway the maneuvered the ball well to create the space to finish with Picks in no mans land trying to mark two Carlisle players

So not really sure where anyones coming from on the evidence of last night that its Norm time just yet

Agree....aside from the slight possibility that he could have done better with their opening goal i'm not sure how we can justify dropping Tommy to play someone who played the first game and the vast majority werent happy with. Plus i can only think of the dropped cross against Huddersfield as a major clanger he has dropped recently!!

Right ok, you've made my post a Tommy Lee thing - my point is about our defensive frailties including Tommy. With us leaking goals galore I feel at this time CROSSLEY should be given a go to try and take the pressure off a little. Tommy rarely comes for the high ball and relies on the defence, maybe it should be a bit more of the other way round.

I may have criticised Crossley early doors but surely perceptions change with performances - we'd be pretty stupid not to react to failings and short comings. I do like Tommy but we are being rolled over too easily, surely we try something to improve the situation.

Tommy also made some fantastic saves last night...

He shouldnt be dropped for the failures of others

I didnt make it a Tommy Lee thing...you did by saying he should be dropped!!

I dont agree that Tommy should be taking the fall for the defences shortcomings currently. If anything its down to the likes of Page and Brecks to get things sorted at a corner etc. Dont think i've seen Crossley but from what i heard about him pre season and at Torquay not many were overly happy with his display. I didnt see Cech getting dropped when Chelsea conceded a few from set pieces and alike earlier this season. Lee is the better keeper and bringing Crossley in to deal with crosses etc we would be losing what Lee gives us which in my opinion is far more.

As a centre back myself i have no issue about a keeper who doesnt come for crosses....means i know i have to deal with it!! The worst kind of keeper is one that sometimes does and sometimes doesnt making it a lottery for a defender. Generally when Tommy does come for a cross its when the time is right and he knows he is going to get there. Yes he dropped one against Huddersfield but in games either side of that he got massive rounds of applause for doing it and it working.

Keepers are a sad lot. No-one remembers when they make saves, because that's what they are expected to do. But we all remember when they don't make a save.

Far better to be a striker, when you get applauded for even trying!

IMO Tommy is one of the best keepers we've had in a looooooong time.
Don't worry what people think, they don't do it very often.

There must have been half a dozen shots at Tommy in the last ten minutes last night where the ball squirmed up off a very greasy surface and he held on to everyone excellently, even when low down.

How many times do you see shots bonce back off keepers and strikers following up slot the ball home? Not many bounce off Tommy.

Any keeper will concede goals when the shot ratio against him goes up but currently he is played well and IMHO should be replaced by MC.

From what I remember at Torquay, Crossley looked a little cumbersome and his kicking wasn't up to scratch either.

Tommy Lee is the least of our worries in defence. Very little protection last night from those infront of him. Bizarre suggestion to mark him out as the root of our problems.
